My husband and I just watched Yankee Doodle Dandy three nights ago... and loved it! (We had both seen it years ago.) If it doesn't "stand up as a great film today" then that is a shame.
To answer your question... I think that it does. Neither my husband nor I had been born when it was made, but we were able to overlook that and enjoy it for what it is... a great film today, from yesteryear.
