I believe in the Law of Attraction, however I believe it only works if you what you want is right for you.

And I also believe that you must put in the work. You must take action! If you want to be an actor, you can't sit home and hope, you must enter the world of acting, meet people go on auditionse etc. And it's like that with everything. I have a dream of being a best selling romance author with 20 books to my credit. To get there I must enter the world of the romance novel.

I read romance novels, I'm (very slowly) writing romance novels, I belong to writers groups, and best of all I took romance writing classes (with a best selling romance novelist) where I learned about the Confession market. I've sold several short stories since then. Many best selling romance authors were Confession writers first.

And when I say my LOA affirmation "It feels great thinking about my future as a best selling romance author..." It really does feel fantastic. Also it feels good just to be an active part of the romance novel world. It's such an uplifting place.

I met a new guy in my office 6 months before I left the job I had been at for 12 years. We never dated, he was only in the office once a month. Anyway, about 4 months after I left, he emailed me. We ended up seeing each other for a couple of months, then we got busy and kind of went our separate ways. That was 3 years ago, it seems that everytime I think of him or I'm having a bad day - I get an email from him. He's says he's just checking on me, wondering how I'm doing and always offers me the most fabulous encouragement. Telling me how proud he is of me and he knows I can face any challenge God sends me. We always plan to meet and do something, but we're both still busy - but I get these emails from him at the most perfect moments....strange...

Dianne, that is lovely that you have such an uplifting, loyal friend! Those types of friends can be hard to find!

I definitely agree that having an enthusiastic, positive outlook on life is key no matter what your goals are in life. But I also agree that you can't say "I will be a world class writer! Now I'll sit on my couch watching TV until it happens!"

That is a VERY interesting story. I always think of the Law of Attraction in terms of tangible goals. A tool to use in conjunction with action. Tho in the book Law of Attraction by Michael J. Losier, he talks about how LOA works in relationships. In all things, according to Losier, you attract what you think about.

The exact quote is "I attract to my life whatever I give my attention, energy, and focus to, whether positive or negative..."

The LOA Treasure Hunt to What You Want...

Here's what I've found...

Simply following what feeeels good in the moment is like following a treasure hunt trail to what you want.

Following what feeels good in the moment is the shortest route, of least resistance, to what you want - even if it seems completely unrelated!! wink

Here's an example scenario:

Peter has a blue Ford Escourt he wants to sell.
Sally wants a car, and she'd prefer a Ford Escourt because she learned to drive in one. Since it's second-hand, she doesn't mind what colour, but ideally, she'd like blue, if it's the right price.

Peter puts ads in the newspaper, and he puts a sign on the car, but no luck selling it yet. Then, he has a desire to go bowling one night. He just feels it would be fun to do. On his way to the bowling alley, he feels hungry, and fancies a chocolate bar. So he stops off at the little shop on the way.

Meanwhile, Sally's friend has called her to go and see a movie. Sally's not sure she should go as she's pouring through the newspapers, looking for a car. She needs to get one really soon, and she's getting desperate. She's tempted to stay in and continue looking through the papers and online... but she knows it would feel sooo good to go to a movie with her friend... so eventually she "gives in" and accepts. Her friend picks her up, and they drive to the cinema. On the way, her friend realises she needs to urgently post a letter, and has no stamps. So she stops off to buy stamps in the little shop on the way.....

Sally's friend asks if she'd like to go in with her, or wait in the car. Sally doesn't feel like getting out - she feels comfortable and cosy in the car, so she choses to wait there.

While she's sitting waiting for her friend, Peter pulls up next to her, to get his chocolate bar... and she notices the sign in the window of his car - it's for sale, it's a Ford Escourt, it's blue... and the price is perfect. Sally gets out of her friend's car, speaks to Peter, they switch numbers and call it a coincidence. wink

THAT is how I believe the LOA works. Follow the breadcrumb trail of what feeeeels good in the moment, no matter how unrelated it may seem, to what you want. smile

I think on one of the Oprah's where she talked about LOA lst year there were a few good 'real people' segments about it in terms of relationships that I thought were really relevant to anyone...one was on couples fighting a lot over everyday things, and the advice was to spend time each day (no matter how frustrated they felt with each other) visualizing the other person doing things they already do that they liked. Kind of like gratitude practice but more focused on actual little acts and things they already do, even something as mundane as taking out the garbage...Idea is that this creates momentum for more of that kind of action, and shifts both of their focus away from grievances towards appreciation...It was interesting how much this little shift changed their dynamics over a week's time...I have found it very helpful myself too!

The whole topic of 'Law of Attraction' has certainly created diverse (and sometimes quite fierce) debate. At one end of the scale it is talked about as an 'art'. At the other end of the scale, under Quantum Mechanics there are ways of defining it using Physics and Maths. I thought I would resurrect this topic to see what we feel about it all in 2010! Joy

The Law of Attraction is one of the laws of the universe whether people believe in it or not.

My husband and I remind ourselves to think positively whenever we notice our lives are attracting undesirable things. Bills, clutter, injuries, damages, etc.

Feeling gratitude, love and joy turns things around quickly.

I tried to bring up the LOA to a friend's husband once but he shot down the topic quickly because he felt it was a tool of the devil. Religious people are turned off by the Secret video because the people in it focus too much on material manifestations, like money, cars, wealth, and fame. But the LOA works for everything. If you WANT money, you can attract money. But you can also attract joy, love and goodness into your life.

Your heart attracts what it desires. Isn't that what the Bible says? "Where your heart is, there your treasure will be."

Chi, many thanks for your comments. I agree - there is too much focus on 'the manifestation of material possessions'. The Law of Attraction is really about getting back whatever you give out. For example, the more generous you are (in every way) the more you experience receiving from others.

And its not just about the interaction of living beings. This can be seen from the largest to the smallest levels:

* The birth of a new star sends ripples throughout the universe
* Splitting an atom causes a huge flow of energy the other way round.

A fascinating subject! (JOY)

That which you give you in life comes back to you multiplied and I try never to forget this because I have seen it in action so many times. But one thing I have never been able to bring myself to do seriously is tithing, ie giving away a specific proportion of my income on a regular basis. I am self-employed and work comes and goes so there are times when I am really busy and have plenty of money coming in, and others when I have none, tighten my belt and focus on other areas of my life, knowning that the hectic and profitable times will return. Does anybody have consistent experience of tithing which they can share? The principle is tightly bound to the Law of Attraction, but it is not easy to put into practice!
