Lol Kennie...I'm sorry....I hope I didn't hurt your feelings....but I'm still laughing at the comment about how when he sees you coming he runs and hides behind the plants !! LOL !

You have been blessed with a very hardy fish...Hercules is a good name for him indeed !

I got my new guy about a month ago. The story behind him is rather odd. A guy at work brought in boxes full of bettas in little cups. His sons college was doing experimental drug testing on the little guys and were going to terminate them, so he brought them all home to give away. I took one. His name is George, and he was addicted to prozac. I never thought I could become so attached to a FISH! He's quite the charecter and my mother and I both spoil him rotten.
He lets you know when he wants something cuz he'll swim back and forth and up and down and he chases his tail. If I tap on tank, he'll swim over to see me no matter where he's at or what his doing. I love the little guy so much.

That's a cute story about how he 'talks' to you, Blah! Is he really addicted to prozac? Do you have to give him some?

That's really nice that you saved one of them and cool that your co-worker's son thought to save them. it's funny how such small fishes can have such large personalities.

Hello everyone - I guess I am still more reasonable then most of you here! - I got only 2 bettas till now!!!

But the one to tell the story about is a first one - that I have for the last 5 months. I called him Mr.Bubbles - not for the habit of making buble nest, but for an interest that he was showing to the air stone bubbles - as long as I had air pump on Mr.Bubbles would hung above the air stone with his head down and try to catch as many bubbles as he could - I got so worried about that addiction of his, I removed an air stone at last!

And surely Mr. Bubbles is also a little greedy pig when it comes to food - if I don't feed him the first thing in the morning, I get a big scary face when I approach his aquarium later!

Question: anyone ever had similar behavior with the air stone bubbles? - I am really qurious about that one.
Svetlana.

lol...that's funny about the airstone Svet. I'm guessing it's just one of his particular personality traits....maybe he figured it was more fun to catch some air that way than going to the surface.

"Moe" is my first betta. I received him as a gift. He's an iridescent blue with red highlights when the light hits him just right. I want to take a picture of him, but I can't get the water in my tank to stop clouding (Does aquarium salt cloud your water, does anybody know? That's all I can think of)

Anyway, the poor thing has been moved around so many times, I think he's a little skittish. He seems to like when I talk to him, though. He comes right up and looks at me, but if I get too close or put my finger near him, he zooms away. You should see me trying to get him out to clean his tank. You'd think I was trying to kill him the way he thrashes about. It takes me such a long time to get him in his cup, and is probably just a stressful to me as to him!

But otherwise, he seems to be happy. Although I worry he gets bored, cause he's home alone a lot. He likes when I feed him his freeze dried bloodworms. He attacks those things with a vengeance.

Hi Panini, and welcome to the forum. I just read your post and caught your question about aquarium salt clouding the water. I have never heard of that before, I use salt too and it has never happened to me. I'm wondering if maybe it's something to do with the gravel in there. (If you even use gravel in there.) hth FW

I do use gravel in my tank, but I don't know if it's that because I had my betta in an interim tank before I got this one and I didn't bother putting gravel on the bottom, but I used aquarium salt in there and it was just as cloudy.

However I was also using Aquarisol in my water before, so I thought it was that. When I did my last water change I only changed 50% of the water, and did not add Aquarisol this time, just aquarium salt. But still no luck, the water didn't clear up any.

I would like to start fresh with a 100% water change, but I know that's not too great for the betta.

I guess I've been doing it all wrong then, panini! LOL. I have a half gallon tank and I change 100% of the water every week. It's been working so far for 9 months. With such a small tank I don't know of doing it in such a way that adding any water doesn't stir up any crud. I'm sure one of the other more knowledgeable ladies could give you better advice.
