over the years I have actually had quite a bit of fun debating the religion issue. But then again, I was on a debate team in HS and college - so it's kind of in my system, LOL!

I've stated on here in the past (but we have so many new people) - our regular "gang" of folk we hang out with consist of us (baptist), a reform Jewish couple, a Catholic couple, and an Atheist married to a - well she calls herself a "naturalist"- I guess thst falls into the pagan category.

So you can imagine some of the dinner conversations thst get going!

Christians generally vote for war. They voted for Bush, they will vote for McCain. Other issues don't seem to matter. Once someone tells them "God speaks to me" or " I'm a Christian too" that's all it takes, they will follow this person off a bridge if they were told to jump, or in our case they will happily vote for trillions spent on war and killing. That is the Christian way. I find it very difficult to believe that the majority of these people have a very high IQ.

This is why I really enjoy having thoughtful conversations with people of other religions. When someone takes the time and energy to think about why they believe what they do, it really makes for some fascinating insight, and even productive conversation.

But I clam up when someone's answer is "because it says so in XYZ..."
