I definitely do agree that we all should be focusing on positive things, working towards our goals and appreciating what we have. If all the energy we spent on regrets, anger and delays was redirected, we could achieve HUGE things.

So I definitely agree with that 100%.

I was just having lunch with a friend who STILL (after 10 or more years) dislikes her sister in law because of something her sister-in-law did at her wedding. Think of all the family get-togethers and other activities "tainted" by that anger ...

The concept of the LOA makes more sense to me than any other belief I've encountered.

But I do believe that there is a lot more to it than many may think. The Secret was a Brilliant introduction to the Law of Attraction - but it was, of course, not comprehensive. You couldn't possibly fit everything on the LOA into one movie, or one book.

I believe that the basic idea of "the way you feel is what you're attracting more of" is spot on. BUT there is a lot more to how to harness that ability for deliberate creation.

Since most of us are automatically "programmed" by experiences, and learn by default, even when we do alllll the things that are suggested in The Secret and elsewhere - the Visualising, the Vision Boards, the Positive Thinking etc. .... even when we do all of that.... because every cell in our body is currently programmed for lack, we'll still be creating/attracting lack. And the Visualisation etc. is then sabotaged... and so we begin the cycle again of attracting/ creating lack.

So, although there is something in the simplistic "change your thinking to change your life" - the human experience includes automatic programming from birth (through the way in which we're treated, and what we learn from others in our environment), meaning the subconscious is pretty much running on automatic. And because those patterns are engrained, most of us need one or more of the many modalities designed to reprogram those subconscious patterns - hypnosis, meditation, EFT, Ho'oponopono, Matrix Energetics, Chinese Energetic Medicine, Theta Healing, psycho-therapy, various books and courses ... etc.

I believe that this is why so many people "don't believe" in the LOA, or feel it doesn't "work for them" - because there are blocks caused by the automatic programming. So it's like trying to drive with the handbrake on! crazy

Great response, Illusions!

I've spent many years reading and practicing the law of attraction, altho it wasn't named that until recently. The first book I read on it was Living in the Light by Shakti Gawain, written about 1990. Wayne Dyer has been talking about manifesting your life since the 1980's at least.

I took part in Bob Doyle's Wealth Beyond Reason course, which addresses getting rid of blocks with EFT and the Sedona Method. Gary Craig offers a free EFT manual and great newsletter on his website.

I have 2 sisters who also don't believe in the law of attraction, altho their lives are great examples of attracting what you think about and believe in. One is in debt because she believes "life is hard" and "rich people stink". The other just blows me off when I bring up anything spiritual.

Lisa, I totally agree that carrying around grudges hurts not only you but all your relationships. When I read Wayne Dyer's book The 10 Secrets of Success and Inner Peace and he talked about the value of forgiveness, it totally changed my life and I was finally able to let go of the past and focus on being happy in the present.

Thanks Joanj smile

For all who are interested in learning more detail about using the LOA deliberately, I Highly reccomend the teachings of Abraham (Abraham-Hicks), and especially their book: "The Law of Attraction and How to Make it Work for You - The Secret Behind The Secret" by Esther and Jerry Hicks.

I love the Abraham books! Ask and it is Given is one of my favorites and I reread it often. I just got their new book too about LOA and money.

It's interesting to note that they were originally part of the Secret movie but were cut from it. Here is a YouTube interview with Ester Hicks about why they weren't in it.

Also, for those who are interested, Ester Hicks has many great interviews on the Law of Attraction on You Tube. You can find them listed with this one.

Another book I reccomend is "Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting" by Lynn Grabhorn. I actually read that before I saw The Secret, but saw it in a very different way.

I don't necessarily think so. While our thought life is integrally important thoughts by themself will do little to bring about the resukts we desire. The writer of the book of James put it well when he said faith without works is dead. Thoughts, or self talk are brought from the realm of the unseen to the seen by actions that line up with those thoughts. Will positive thoughts, followed by winning words, coupled with decisive action attract desired results? I believe so, which is the reason why I promote the order of BE DO and HAVE. You must first work on your self internally. Who you are is an outflow of what you fill yourself with (the books you read, the people you associate yourself with, what you say about yourself and to yourself)and will put you in position to make choices. Acting on the positive choices (or negative ones) will then put you in position to recieve (HAVE) what you desire. You can further explore this in my new book titled Shake Off The Snake: Making The Shift From Wearier To Warrior. The book is available online with Barnes and Noble, Amazon, and at bedoandhave.net.
