Do you ever actually put cucumber slices under your eyes? I have not done this. I do think about it and I wonder if people actually do it at home or if they've experienced having this done in a real life spa. (you see it done at spas on TV all the time - but no one at a spa ever offered ME any cukes). smile

Here is my article on portable stress relief pads for the eyes, a product by Estee Lauder:

actual cucumbers do not work. The only thing they are good for are for the cold around the eyes.

At work we used to use a compress pad that was stamped with a cucmber design that we kept in the fridge. Now we use th ereusable gel filled eye pads with the cutouts for the eyes and nose with a silk cover on them.

OO, Jase that sounds lovely. I will have to find me some of those silky, gel-filled eye pads! smile

I can see about the cucumber not really doing anything worthwhile but being cooling from the cold (if it's been in the fridge).

i am still curious if anyone has actually been to a spa where they put vegetables on your face? lol

we did put them on our clients at one time. we coated the cucmber in eucalyptus and almond oil. the euc cleared the sinuses and cause a cooling effect. of course we had a layer between them so it didn't get in the auctual eye

I have a velvety eye mask that I use when I travel, if I'm in a room that doesn't get very dark. It has a gentle lavender smell. I also have a plasticy "gel" eye mask that came free with something. I've tried it once or two but it never really made a big impression on me.

On cucumbers they say it's not just the high water content but also the sodium in the water that helps to draw the puffiness out of the eyes. So I imagine you could do that with a cool wet salted washcloth smile Not nearly as pretty though! wink

I have used cucumber juice on my eyes. Just grate the cucumber into a bowl and strain. Keep the juice in a jar in the fridge and when you're ready dab a cotton ball or two in there and plop them on your eyes. I also like to soak jumbo cotton balls or thick gauze in icy witch hazel. It smells terrific and is so relaxing.

The spa I patronize uses a vitamin E serum that is WONDERFUL on the eyes but they leave the cukes on the sandwiches.

Cucumber juice is a neat idea! I love the scent of witch hazel too - smells so clean. smile

Lisa I like the idea of the salty washcloth. Hmmmm. Just as an experiment. smile

Some people also leave metal spoons in the fridge and use those to remove puffiness before going out. Have not tried that yet, but it sounds like an easy fix.

Not vegetables; but the very 1st time I ever got my eyebrows waxed, the woman put peanut butter on my brows afterwards! crazy

I'm not kidding. I had my eyes closed, and all of a sudden I smell peanut butter. When I asked about it, she goes "Oh yes, it helps take out the sting."

Needless to say, it did not, and no-one anywhere else has ever put peanut butter on me. Aloe, coconut balm - but no peanut butter.
