My two boys are named:
Prince Papitto Muad'Dib Lior Gonzalez Young-Ruel (call him Papi)
Che Ernesto MuShu Cornelius Young-Ruel (CHe)
They are both purebred Chihuahuas from the same litter.

My female shepherd/chow mix goes by Kaos, although she thankfully doesn't live up to her name!

We are currently thinking of getting a cockapoo. I have 2 children 12 and 10 - neither would ever hurt a pet. My son and hubby are both allergic to dogs and from what I have read, this breed doesn't shed and is supposed to be hypoallergenic. any thoughts on the breed and how easy it is to train, is it playful? Hyper? calm? personality tendencies, health, maintenance, etc.??? Any firsthand info would be appreciated. paba

It sounds like your one of these people who have been convinced to pay money for a cross breed dog from a breeder who is diluting the genes of pure breds. If you want a cross breed animal, please go to the local pound and rescue one that has no owners. Don't become part of the con job that these breeders are perpetuating. check out www.petfinder.com and rescue a dog in need of a home.

Sophie, mini dachshund, Zoe and Meg, rat terriers, and Chewie (Chewbacca), also a rat terrier. He was born deaf and abused because of it, so he is my special needs baby.

I would be cautious, I had a cockapoo when a child and possibly due to poor breeding he had a lot of health and mental issues, essentially crazy and unpredictable, would be sweet and then come round and bite you hard. Research first and there should be more information on the internet.

Actually - whilst I can see precisely where you're coming from - this particular breed of dog was bred specifically for the blind- becausr the blind can't see to vacuum up the dog hair. Poodles are highly intelligent, faithful, loyal and very responsive....and don't shed their hair.... labradors are gentle, easy to train, have an excellent reputation with regards to children, and can be docile and calm. Unfortunately, there can be rogues in the croiss-breeding, as the above poster has just illustrated....

You may want to look into an older dog versus a puppy..one that is housebroken, quasi trained, and past their rambunctious puppy years. Try 4 to 6 years of age. Also as pointed out previously, mutts are the best dogs to have (I have 3 mutts and one breed dog). Finally, many of the dogs at pounds are purebreds that grew out of the cute puppy stage.
