I agree for the most part. "Seinfeld" was right and brought this very topic out of the closet...a lot of babies are just fugly. I have a sister and brother in law who are expecting in Aug and what do I expect? It to be hidious as they are not attractive people. that's why a pretty baby can be pretty irresistable to me, unlike kitties, which are ALL so damned cute!

But do indulge me for a second. When I was born in 1965 I weighed just under five pounds, had a full head of dark, dark black hair, and long eyelashes. I have always been told I was the prettiest of my mother's five daughters at birth. About a year ago an uncle of mine died. He was in his eighties. My aunt came to me after his funeral and showed me his wallet. In it was my seventh grade school photo. It seems he had taken a pic of me right after birth and put it in his wallet, replacing it when my mother sent a new one. He had 18 nieces and nephews and I was the only one he did this with. I was seriously, seriously touched.

I saw a tv show that depicted a baby (human) that was born with that defect where they are hairy all over. I thought the baby was cute! I don't like all those wrinkly bare pink (or rosy) skin folds. And they move all jerky and drool. Baby animals don't drool! Or blow spit bubbles and lack control of their tongue! Yuk. And I really do not like the smell of babies--one of my pet peeves is every cosmetic (deoderant, powder, lotion, soap) that claims to be "powder" scent is BABY powder scent! To me it smells like I am wearing a dirty diaper all day! Ugg! Who wants to lift their arm and smell diaper?

Not all babies are cute. Luckily most parents think their babies are the cutest on the earth. Otherwise, they won't spend the energy to raise them. On the other hands, I think there are more cuter babies than good looking adults:-)

Great post. Im 41 and Ive never held one - dont like them at all and I agree with you about the strange baby smell and likelihood to be covered in some sort of spew.
Kittens I adore though and would love to hold a dozen at once.
I tend to leg it if a baby comes in the office as the cooing drives me nuts.
