loved reading about your little friends....and I am soo glad that I am not the only "bettanut" around...I now have..(since last post here).. "9" bettas....3 females and 6 males.

The three females are: all blue...all green...and a cambodian type teal which I just picked up the other day.

The males are: an average petstore type blue with irredescent turquoise fins which are red washed....a very fruitpunch red...a pinkish red with purple between the fins when the light hits him right....a cambodian type male with turquoise fins...and two crowntails, a dark blue with grey fins and a red white and blue cambodian type. Most of these fish are posted on the "rate a fish" page.

I too am having great fun with this hobby. Right now I am working towards trying my first breeding attempt. Can't wait to see how that goes. <img src="/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Im new here as well as I am a new betta fish owner. I just got mine last night and I was having the hardest time naming them but today I finally decided on names for them. I got them last night at Ring Dance because they were giving them away and I wanted to know a few tips on caring for them (im 16 by the way) after I tell you about them.

Marvin- Marvin dwells twoards the top of the tank sometimes which im kind of concerned about and hes a maroon color with vibrant hints of azure blue. I would have to say that I like him a little more because he needs more care "Im a sap for needy things" lol.

Dorian- Dorian has more vibrant aqua hints in his maroon body and is alot more lively than marvin. Hes a little more open to me than marvin and he seems to enjoy his new home more. ( I bought them bigger bowls last night from walmart as well as I bought them foliage and Betta fish food <img src="/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> )

But those are my fishes and I already love them alot.

breeding takes alot of time and preperation as well as caring for the fry.. i haven't tried it yet becoz of all the uni work that i have but i'm sure on my break i will try it.. good luck and let me know how you go...

nannynan, it does sound like you have a doubletail - good on you! Those are hard to find. I have one, that's from Walmart of all places, but typically she is sick (with a bad case of fungus). those walmart fish are so delicate from poor handling, I think, but soometimes they get nice fish in. Where did you find a double tail?

Kei, SayUKI might well be a male. I have the same situation with a red betta I have - i love her but suspect she's really a boy. I still can't figure it out. At some point I will see if he/she will try breeding with my crowtail red girl...then maybe I will see.

BTW, Gambit is from X-Men, right?

Welcome krisystar! Sounds like you are interested in providing a nice new home for your friends. I'd like to suggest you run out and get some BettaFix and BettaSplendens Water Conditioner. Walmart does not seel these, so you should try a fish store instead. melafix is a resonable substitute, as well as Aquasafe, for both of those things if you can't find the betta-specific products. You mght also want to read the threads in this forum about betta foods and betta product reviews. There's a lot of knowledable people here, too, if you have any questions. Your fish sound great!

Emg, have you considered breeding your Cambodian couple?

My other betta, Pinky is graceful and beautiful -- when he's not eating his babies. <img src="/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> He is adjusting to being at home now, so he's a lot less exuberant. He did wave at me this morning when I said hi to him.

Sweetie has reverted to her boring brown with black stripes. She seems quite sad. I've tried to give her lots of attention, but she's not perked up yet. She used to be such a beautiful deep red. <img src="/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

My workplace banned any "live pets, including live fish" as of last Friday. <img src="/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> My cubicle is not the same without my finny friends.

Actually Jilly...yes I have ! I have been trying to decide wiether I should breed my cambodian female to Teal or to Patriot. I can't make up my mind <img src="/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

The cambodian female has more blue/teal (depending on the light) in her and Patriot has more red with a bit of blue. I was wondering wiether I would get babies with more evenly colored fins if I mixed those two. The female does have a bit of red on the end of her tail.

However...she and Teal are colored just about the same except for the bit of red in her tail..Teal has no red at all..just white/cream and turquoise. The only thing about him is that his top fin has a curl in it. I bet they would make a nice pair.

I would breed her with teal and steer away from the red wash as much as possible. Try to go for a butterfly teal baby...that would be a prize fish!
