The double standard is truly sickening. Besides, I don't understand the justification for kicking pregnant girls out of school - denying them a decent education is the last thing we should be doing, since education is their opportunity to make something of their lives, to become independent and self-sufficient. Lumping them in with the problem kids is only making their already difficult situation worse.

Manatee,

Yes. I feared for them and their babies having to attend school with the juvinile delinquents! And this, in SOuthern California, people. Where things are supposed to be so liberal. Not.

Kim~ In this area, schools that take in the problem kids, delinquents, etc. are called "alternative schools." I don't know if that's regional terminology or if everyone uses that phrasing.

It can't be too regional - they use the term in my neck of the woods, too. I had friends who went to alternative school and bragged about being able to take smoke breaks. Woohoo.

My gran used to say that when it came to unmarried (or unplanned) pregnancies, that both parties were responsible but it showed and showered more on the the girl. I think I can say Amen to both! Until DNA testing, the dad could gather their pals and get them to say they had all been with the girl in order to relieve themselves of any burdon of responsibility and the amazing thing is that it WORKED!

The girl was left to should the blame, the shame and the duties of child rearing like it was an immaculate conception. Thank goodness some advances have been made in those areas.
