Urgh.. stupid, stupid, stupid children.
I was driving back from work ... when I saw ahead these kids were playing football in the street.
'Oh.. how cute', I am sure some parents would think... yeah....
... 'How cute' when it happens to be on a busy road in RUSH hour...
Half the kids were on one side of the road, half on the other and they were KICKING the ball across the road - with loads of cars going past!!!!
I was totally gobsmacked.. and then as I approached, I was one of the kids WALK into the middle of the road with no care of road safety, to retrieve the ball that had stopped in the middle of the road.... a drive braked very suddenly and sounded their horn and the kid swore at them, before kicking the ball back across the road to his mates to continue the game.
I was so angry... what stupid children play football on a busy road? what the hell were the parents teaching them?
Anyway, as I got to the place, the ball went into the middle of the road... and the kid came out to fetch it...
.. I reved and accelerated.
Kid fell down, I ran over ball...
... end of football game and no dead kids - hopefully a few bruises though.
(and I did make sure there was no CTTV cameras around in case the little [censored] said I tried to run him over)
I swear to God in situations like this, 'natural selection' might eradicate stupid adults by killing stupid kids... However I would like to know where the parents were and what the hell they were thinking of letting their children play on a busy road... and to SWEAR at drivers?
Disgusting.

Just typical of the godawful young generation (and irresponsible parenting) of the UK, unfortunately. Was this in the Reading area, Linux Lady?

Gosh...how crazy are they? Even kids should have enough sense to get out of a busy road! But where were their parents? And why weren't they concerned? Shows what wonderful parents they are doesn't it *sarcastic tone*? HA!

Nooo.. in Swansea, Wales actually.. where I am currently working! When I drove back to my flat today to pick up the cat and then head 'home' (back to Reading) .. there were no kids around.. so maybe they don't have a new ball yet? I don't want kids.. but I don't want kids to die either... yet they flipping well if they carry on like that...

THere are a few boys down the street who like to put a skateboard ramp in the street. Usually they block traffic going one way so, you have to go through one at a time if two cars approach at the same time. I just can't tell you how much this annoys me! My car is small and quiet and sometimes they don't hear me approach, so I often have to wait till one of them looks up and they move out of the way. It's bad enough they block one lane, they have to block both of them?
Also, we live in a nice neighborhood that that has wide sidwalks, large driveways and large front and back yards. They don't need to be in the street in the first place!
Anyway, a couple of years ago these kids were younger (about 12) and more obnoxious. One of them had a party and the street was jammed with kids using the skateboard ramp--probably 30 kids! When we tried to drive through, they'd turn and give you a stare and make you wait a while before they'd move. I was so angry, I called the police. My husband reminded me to tell the police that we were worried about the kids' safety otherwise he figured they wouldn't show up.
ANyway, as we waited for the cops to show up, more people dropped thier kids off for the party. The kids were like a mob, blocking the street. A couple of the kids actually flipped drivers off, screamed at them, and slapped a flat hand on people's car hoods! By the time the cops arrived it was three times worse than when we called and boy was I glad. The cops made them take the ramp out of the street, made all the kids get on the sidewalk and had a big talking to with the dad.
This has not happened since. They hardley ever put the skateboard ramp in the street and when they do, they keep it very close to the curb now. But why did it have to come to this? Isn't it sad that we're more worried about the kids' safety than their parents are and that we had to call the police just to be able to drive down our own street? THis is irresponsible parenting. They should be teaching their kids to respect others and to be good neighbors.
Linux Lady, if I could have run over one of those skateboards, I would have!

When I read the subject title, I thought, "Now there's a winning combination!"
Parents, parenting? What a bizarre concept...

See, Cherry Red... in the situation you described, I honestly can't even conjure up any concern for the kids' safety. All I can feel is anger that they are being so disrespectful to the adults trying to drive past, and it sickens me that their parents would allow that. What is wrong with them???
Simone de Beauvoir dismissed motherhood as, "...'a strange mixture of narcissism, altruism, idle daydreaming, sincerity, bad faith, devotion and cynicism."
