I'm finding out more and more that indoor pollution (dust, mold, fragrances, printer ink, paper dust, etc) is often worse for asthmatics than outdoor pollution (pollen, car exhaust).

I never heard about printer ink. Do you have a reference link to something on that or can you expand on it? I immediately remove the fragrant pages in magazines and toss them out.
I use the natural air fragrances that are sold at Whole Foods and Trader Joes and got a lemon one from Watkins recently. They are expensive though and also got a cinnamon one thru Avon and that was almost $8!!

Too bad an epi pen type of thing could not be used for asthma emergencies. Or is there something like that on the market?

I am allergic to yellow #5 (which is a petroleum byproduct dye) which is in all kinds of food and cleaning supplies and often allergies do drive an asthma attack. I would also imagine that commercial buildings could have an amazing array of nasty things in their air systems.
I used to really struggle when people would wear purfume or even heavily perfumed lotion to work. It was all I could do to keep breathing. I used to sit at a cubicle with people and train them and more then once I would get over powered by their perfume.

We used to use epinephrine all the time for asthma attacks--then we discovered that many people had what is called a "rebound effect." At first they would seem to get better, but then an hour or so later the problem would come back and the bronchospasm would be even worse than it was to begin with...We don't use epinephrine much anymore.

Allergic to printer ink? It's the first I've heard of that. I guess people can developed allergies for anything.
Lisa, I know someone who is allergic to a different type of dye. Life is hard for him, but he gets by.

there has been a switch in some newsprint inks and I have reactions to them. I don't know what kind of dye a lot of them are using now, but I get all stuffed, runny nose, and sneezing galore. It can also flare up my asthma so I must be careful.

I hadn't heard about printer ink; but I've read a lot about reactions caused by ozone from office machines (high volume printers especially).
