I'd never heard of Fingersmith so I looked it up on IMDb and ended up reading a detailed synopsis. Now I've GOT to view it to see how they managed to get all those nuances into a film!

Well, Gang, I finally watched Atonement.

Let me know if you hate my review!

There are a few films that I feel are better than the book. Atonement is one of them and I think The English Patient is another.

Just read your review Peggy. Oh, dear I absolutely loved Atonement although I know several other people who didn't. I've watched it three times and I could easily watch it again. It made me grieve in a way the book never achieved. AFter reading the book, I just shrugged and put it down - but the film... beautiful.

Joanna,
Isn't it interesting how reactions vary?! My daughter, like you, could watch Atonement again and again. For me once was enough.

This week I watched two movies that might leave others cold, but I think they're great:

The Sea Inside (Spanish film with Javier Bardem as a quadriplegic)
Iris (film that shows Iris Murdoch (played by Kate Winslett [young Iris] and Judy Dench [old Iris]) descending into senility. I could watch Judy Dench in anything. She's definitely my favorite working actor.

I haven't read Atonement yet - I am so far behind on reading books right now that I think it might be a while before I get to that!
