I'm pretty new here, so I just want to start by saying hi!

The good news is that at 24, I've been able to convince my doctor to start the paperwork for my bilateral tubal ligation. YES!

The bad news is that my fiance is really scared for me. He's all for me being sterile and not having kids, but doesn't want me to go under anesthesia. He's seen some bad behavior in anesthesiologists and doesn't trust them with the most important thing in his life (that's not egotism, it's a direct quote). Is there another way to do this besides general anesthesia? Is there anything I can say to convince him that this is safe? Any insight would be much appreciated.

Is there any reason that he could not get sterilized instead? The procedure is much easier for a man, and no general anesthesia needed.

Or, if he won't do that, can you look into Essure? No general anesthesia needed there either.

He's offered to get a vasectomy and I might take him up on it when this is over, but I still want this for myself. I've wanted this as long as I can remember.

As far as the anesthesia goes, I have been under twice with no problems, and everyone I know that has been under has had no problem. It is rare to have problems.
Do whatever you really want to do - good luck.

I can't offer any direct advice about your fiance's concerns, I'm afraid, but like BillieCat, I've also been under twice with no problems at all. There's really nothing to worry about. :-)

Welcome Manveri! Congrats on getting your surgery. I agree with Cindy that you could look into Essure if you are sure that you want to be the one who gets the procedure. It doesn't involve general anasthesia.

Good luck!

Welcome Manveri,

Congrats on finding someone to give you the procedure at such a young age! I've been under anastesia twice and I was fine, so I don't have any advice to offer on that. Perhaps your fiance should go with you and ask the Dr. some questions to help ease his mind.

There is usually a meeting or a telephone conference with the anesthesiologist before surgery. Take your fiance with you to this meeting or have him listen in on the conversation and give him a chance to ask his questions and express his concerns. That's what this meeting/conference is for smile

I also have been under twice with no problems. I like the idea of the telephone conversation with the anesthesiologist. It may help to put his worries to a temporary rest. Other than that, I say proceed with the operation and congrats on your tubal.
