Apparently, science is coming up with ways to "trick" the body into breastfeeding a child that it did not produce.

I especially love the part where it says hold the baby to your breast. How come caregivers all over the world aren't having problems with breasts filling with milk? And all those herbs and stuff? What is this, the middle ages? (Sorry to anyone who is into doing the "herbal" thing, but I just don't buy it. If it worked, it would already be sold as FDA-approved medication.)

You know, there's quite a few cases of female mammals spontaneously producing milk for infants that are in need of it. Apparently the hormones are triggered when the female is around the hungry baby 24/7. It's not incredibly common, but it's happened. So I really wonder how much the herbs have to do with it. :P

Is it just me, or does anyone else find the thought of an adoptive parent breastfeeding just a little bit creepy?

Yes, creepy is right. I've always found wet nursing to be on the disturbing side, so it's no wonder I find this to be very, very strange.

Yes! I'd heard that was possible and could hardly believe it. Well dears, at least we're not missing out on everything by not giving birth. We can always try breastfeeding if the mood strikes us.

This is just a little too weird for me! It is gross to me if you gave birth to the child, but to do it when you never gave birth?! Just plain strange.

How can you prove whether at this moment we are sleeping, and all our thoughts are a dream; or whether we are awake, and talking to one another in the waking state?

I agree. The whole concept is disturbing.

I think we should stick to natural ways. There are enough diseases and cancers out there as is, and they don't know the long-term effects of this "phenomenon."
