Okay, I'm not officially back, but I HAD to post this.

My little sugar gliders eat baby food - just the chicken, turkey, etc. The meat, not any of the veggies. It's the only way to reliably get enough protein into them.

Since I've been buying the baby food jars at our local grocery chain, they were $.89. This has been for about 5 or 6 years now. It's actually the same price at the other major chain, too.

Today I had to go buy more baby food (they go through one every three days) and I was SHOCKED that the price went up to $.99 per jar!

Now, for me, that's not a huge deal. I only use about 3 jars a week.

Now imagine that you have one kid at home who is eating baby food. That's probably 2-3 jars per day, depending on how much solid food they are eating.

Now imagine that you have twins, or triplets. Or that you have a new kid every year.

Can you even imagine how EXPENSIVE that? I mean, those dimes add up pretty darn fast.

Personally, I never ate a jar of baby food in my life. My mom pureed everything in a blender for me. But I honestly don't know anyone nowadays who does that.

i know a lot of people who have jumped on the make your own bandwagon. I have a friend who just gave birth and she does everything herself. She uses glass baby bottles, pumps her milk, uses natural rubber nipples, cloth nappies, etc.

Our natural food store here in this small town has been going strong for 20 years even though the trend to naturals has only started taking off mroe recently.

My brother (as you all know) was oopsed last year by his girlfriend - he now provides for 6 people - the biological father of the first three is lying on a beach somewhere in NSW - he couldn't get out of the State fast enough when my brother was "caught"...he has never provided for his kids & can now avoid taking them every second weekend. (he was also, manipulated by his ex-wife and is very bitter)
My brother's food bill has gone from $80 a week (and that was eating well) to $400 and that's basic stuff - rice and pasta dishes in the main...
They are struggling financially which is hard for my brother - he has always been self sufficient and comfortably off...enjoyed eating out and holidays...
We lent him some money during the first few desperate months but then my family lawyer friend warned us to be very careful - if the relationship ends - her kids might claim financial dependency on us, they could also, challenge our estate - we also, started to see it clearly - this woman - mother of three - gets pregnant after knowing my brother for 2-3 months and then expects us to lend them money to pay for her kids school fees so, she can sit at home nursing her new baby...No deal - her kids are not our responsibility.
You make your bed...
Its sad that you have to think in this self protective way - but this woman has shown her true colours...
The cost of 4 kids is crippling on one income - tough on two...

It's amazing how much the price of everything has risen in the last year. Our grocery bill used to be $100 a week and now it's $150. I really don't know how parents do it. Okay, I DO know how parents do it. They live up to their eyeballs in debt and stress.

What, pray tell, is a sugar glider?

Wow! That is SO scary that she could claim dependency on YOU!! Yikes! I'm glad you were given that info so you could avoid that.
