Nann..I don't think you need to add salt daily...The only time I add more salt to my tanks is when I take water out...and I only use the aged water to replace what I take out, which already has salt in it.

one of my clients gave me her south american cichlids when I redid her tank as an African Rift Lake...so now I have these huge lovely fish in my 40 g....am looking for a nice 75 gal for when they grow bigger...but in the meantime the girl blood parrot is laying eggs on the lace rock and the boy oscar is trying to fertilize them. they act all lovely too, like a couple, and are chasing everyone else away. I don't know if this is even possible, but they are going for it anyway.

I have not named them yet because I was waiting to see if they would survive the move. they had a bout of ich from the stress, but everyone seems to be okay now and the tank levels have cycled.

I went to the local fish store today, described what is on Flounder, the cichlid's fins. My husband went off to check out the fish, and the clerks suggested Aqua-Sol. I was holding the stuff, went to see my husband, and found some of the same type of cichlids.

And I was highly embarrassed to learn that the spots on the fins are egg spots and are normal for that type of cichlid!

When I found my husband, he looked over and said, "Do I know you?" And then, he just had to do it -- "I told you they were fine." <img src="/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" />

I had a feeling from your description this was normal, but I wasn't going to say that without seeing them. I'd have hated for them to really be sick and my going "it sounds like nothing..."

So, I put the carbon filter back in, and they seem just as fine as ever.

I put Tao's body into the cichlid tank and when I checked again, there was no sign. Somehow that felt better than flushing like I did Speedy.

My friend was totally grossed out at the thought, but I guess I wanted his death to benefit something or someone rather than just being a waste.
