I was just thinking about this the other day... do people say things to you to try and "guilt" you into having kids? for example, my parents always say to me, "your kids are up in heaven looking down saying 'my mommy doesn't want me...'" uggh!! that is the most annoying thing ever.

I'm sorry to have to say this - since they are your parents - but this bingo is the most ridiculous, nonsensical thing I have heard in quite a while. Perhaps you could tell your parents that you will have 'your' children when they decide to come down from their heavenly perch fully formed and apparently able to speak flawless English.

Welcome to the forum, by the way - I have read your posts but haven't got round to saying hello before. smile

Maybe you could say..."I'll have to meet them when I get up there myself, then." Or if you're feeling a little stressed, "Say hi to them for me when you get there."

What a ridiculous bingo, though, I agree with Manatee. I wonder what happens to those mythical "pre-children" if you have a miscarriage, through no fault of your own? Hmm.....

Hmm. My response, in line with my usual doomed thinking, would go: "If they're up there, they'll be a million times better off than down here. Why would I submit them to this suffering?"

I agree this is one of the more annoying bingos I've EVER heard. Welcome iandysgrl, and sorry to hear your parents are hassling you. Ug!!

I love everyone's responses. Another one that's sort of a variation on a line Duane gave us awhile ago..."Hope they'll save a seat for me!"

Oh, and definitely yes, I am the recipient of many attempted guilt trips from my parents too. I hate it.

A bingo is any of a number of comments that non-parents are barraged with, such as "You'll change your mind," "You'll regret it," "You'll be lonely when you're old," etc.

Someone made them into a bingo card:

Actually, I find this bingo very interesting because in the past I have used something similar to counter people who talked about CF people being selfish. I just remembered this one!

I used to say "It's not like there are a whole lot of babies floating around in the universe just waiting to be born, and by not giving birth to them I am denying them a life.".

I think I was in my 20s when I first said this. I had forgotten all about it. I used to get really perplexed when people said that not having kids made you selfish.
