I want everyone to take note: For once, the cat-jacking of the thread was NOT started by me talking about the Beastie!

I absolutely love having a cat come up to me for petting. That's part of the reason I trained her to come on command. First, it was a hand gesture, then verbal commands. Like most cats, she occasionally ignores me, just because she can. But I get the thrill of a cat approaching me, for no reason but petting and scratching, a few times a day, by her own idea or prompted by a word or finger wiggle from me.

There are times when she's actually a decent pet...

Too funny. I do the same thing. I find if you don't "encourage" the mom's you don't get it as bad. I might say something real brief regarding the baby but that is it. I don't make a big deal. I guess that shows we are really not interested. I am not that good at faking stuff. I am just really not interested and you can tell.

BUT.....show me a puppy or kitten and I droll. When I go to someone's house tha I don't know that well or I am there with someone else..the first thing I look for or ask is "do you have any pets"?

LOL Myrabeth!! smile I guess I'm the guilty party this time...I couldn't help myself!

For some reason Lucky likes to "sneak" onto my lap. He does it like he is stalking his prey...very slowly with soft steps. Then, before I realize it, he has made a bed of my lap. It is like a game to him and he's so cute doing it. My thing is that I love to listen to him purr...it calms me.

Jzel -- I agree...I find that if I don't show much interest, the mom won't overload me with mommy talk. However, I also found that to truely offend one of my former friends....guess she thought since we were friends that it was a must that I fawn over her kid...Oh well...I suppose that is why she became a "former" friend.

How can you prove whether at this moment we are sleeping, and all our thoughts are a dream; or whether we are awake, and talking to one another in the waking state?

Ha. I've always found that cats are sadistic as well. I have a friend who really can't stand cats, and every time he came over, my two would just BEELINE for him, ignoring people they liked to rush over and drive him nuts. I swear they knew!

I love cats. I can imagine life without a dog, but I will never, if I can help it, not have a cat in the house. My two current cats are brother and sister and polar opposites, Pika is the life of the party, to the point of being a total pest, and Sam is a recluse (but loves his mummy).

I laughed about Chainsaw - I have the same effect on cats, and their owners are frequently amazed. Cats certainly know cat people from a mile away...

Pikasam - I agree, I can't imagine living without a cat in my life. In college the tutor's cat ended up sleeping on my desk/bed most of the time - the tutor was very busy - I was studying in my room most nights so the cat just moved in...
I love the way cats "suit themselves"...& they find the warmest or coolest spot in the house - grab the comfortable chair and just "assume" anything new in the house is for them...
