Well first I have to caveat that I only dug the Bowflex out of the gigantic basement mess a few days ago - in fact I could go back through the forum posts to figure out exactly when that was. So I wouldn't take my current daily Bowflex activity as any sign of long term progress yet - I think it's been less than a week that I've been doing it.

But yes, right now I have an area of the basement cleared out with the bowflex in it, and my Dance Dance Revolution pad and laptop sitting next to it. So every morning I go down and dance for about an hour, then do 20 front pulls at 100 pounds and then 20 back pulls (down to the back of my neck). Then I do 50 sit-ups because I can loop my legs in the leg-lift thingie and it holds my feet well enough to do sit ups. That's been my routine right now.

Jill said I should do back extensions too, and the yoga DVD I just got has those as their introductory exercises. So later today I'm going to try finding a way to push the coffee table out of the way in the living room and do that. I think it was a 10 minute set. So that's not too bad.

Wow, that's a lot of exercise and that is so great, Lisa!

Keep in mind you should not work out the same muscles every day. Cardio every day is fine, but the Bowflex should be every other day. Muscles are torn down by a workout and need a day of rest to rebuild. Otherwise you are just tearing down all the time. smile

Some people alternate upper body and lower body if they want to lift everyday.

So cardio and yoga every day are fine but not lifting/Bowflexing. smile

Oh, and I am glad that yoga vid seems good and that you are doing back extensions. Back extensions are a nice stretch, besides just balancing out against crunches.

I am STILL waiting on my yoga mat to get here! Arg. I will go into town and check my mail right now. (no house delivery where I live - you'd think this was a remote area and not just a half hour from a huge metropolis!)

I was just asking in the yoga forum about mats. Maybe I'll go on Amazon and see what they have ...

Really the Bowflex stuff takes maybe 2 minutes tops, and the situps another minute or so. So I do those while the PS2 is booting up smile

It's the bike stuff I'm having trouble motivating myself to do. Dancing is just so much more fun! It's active and moving and the music is great, where sitting and watching TV is seeming boring to me. Maybe I need to get some new movies in via Netflix ...

OK I think today's going to be my day of rest, my shoulders are a little sore now and I just don't have any energy. Of course that is probably because my evil boyfriend brought home eggplant parmesan with ziti last night and as soon as I ate those ziti I was pretty much asleep ...

I started doing TaeBo last week and I guess I overdid it the first time out, with workouts two days in a row. I could feel my knees starting to bother me. Mainly from standing on one foot while doing kicks. I took a break yesterday and today I'm feeling as good as new. I believe it is important to give your body a rest sometimes so it can heal and renew itself.

LOL I said I would take a day of rest, but we went out shopping and got some nice interlocking pads and set them up below where Bob plays darts and then underneath my dance dance area. So then of course I had to test them out smile I did a full hour of dancing, and even tried two of the songs at a harder difficulty. Then I did my 25 pull-downs front, then back, and 50 sit-ups.

I asked my boyfriend who supposedly is expert in these things about my form on the Bowflex exercises and even though I asked him up front to be supportively constructive he starts in on the "you're doing it all wrong!" kind of stuff which was not a "you are going to break something" thing but more a "You're working out X muscles instead of Y muscles". And I said Well I don't WANT to work out those muscles. It is just so frustrating. I wanted him to help me with what I wanted to do - not to tell me I was doing it all wrong because he felt I should be doing something else. And what is most frustrating is that he always does this so I even began with a request to have him be constructive and help me with my aims and he just ignored it.

But I suppose he did help me find good dance dance pads and set them up, so that was semi productive. And we did get a heart rate monitor that is a wristwatch (no chest strap needed) so that is good, to see how I'm doing. Oh and we got some more cholesterol test sticks so I'll try those out later tonight.

Lisa, I know it's good to take a day of rest, but I have to give you credit for doing what you feel. There is no specific plan. Just keep going girl, I'm trying my best too!
