My second ex-husband and I bought some of those wooden training swords once and he got so mad because I was better than him. Truly, he quit playing! Said I was doing it wrong! What a whiny brat. But, it was really fun.
I have a real bike and am looking forward to riding it this year. I just hate the helmet thing, but I suppose I should get used to it.

Doing it wrong??? Sword fighting is about defending yourself. If you hit the other person you are doing it right!! We have five bikes here (I just had to go down and move them around) and all of them have flat tires. We used to road bike and mountain bike a ton. I *love* mountain biking. So maybe this year we will get them fixed up ... I used to hate helmets. I was in a car accident when I was 23 or so and my head feels sensitive (or maybe I am just paranoid). In any case I had to force myself to wear a helmet when I got into biking but I got used to it very quickly. Make sure you go for a quality helmet, they are MUCH more comfortable than cheap ones. A good bike shop can help you with a fitting. Bob used to work in one for several years so we tried a bunch before we found a good one for me.

I am so glad I got my Bowflex cleared out! I am going for quick-but hard with that right now, since I don't have a ton of free time. So every day I'm going down, hooking up 100 pounds (50 on each side) and doing 10 front curls and 10 back pull-downs (whatever those are called). Actually I did 15 of each yesterday. I'm also doing 50 sit-ups. That way it's not a huge time commitment, I just run down, do the reps, and come back up again. So far that's working well for me.

Lisa it's generally advised to pair sit ups with back extensions. :-)
Sounds like the bowflex is really working well for you. I hope you don't overextend and hurt yourself with the heavy weights. If you do even five minutes of walking in place to warm up, it will be better for your muscles - they will be lubed up and ready, according to my trainer.

The 100 pounds is tough but doable, it's not hurting at all later or the next day. So I think it's OK. What's a back extension? I did find several sword training DVDs out there - I have to put that off for now though Too many things on my plate! And yes we have several swords here in the house

OK this may sound funny but I don't know if I have floor space anywhere that is clear enough to do that. I suppose I could do it on the bed, but I'd sag into the bed ... still, I suppose it's better than nothing! Jill may have passed me on the weight challenge, but I did just go from 25% fat to 23% fat - so I am building up muscle! So that's a good thing long term, that should accelerate my weight loss going forward

OK I'm up to 20 reps on front and back with the bowflex at 100 pounds. Also 50 situps. Although this morning my stomach was killing me so I only did 15.
Jill - interestingly the yoga DVD I got (which I'll post about in the yoga forum) as back extensions as their very first exercise. So I guess I'll be working on those once I figure out how to get a clear spot in front of the TV!
I also did an hour of DDR - I got the new game in already from Amazon!! It has Unbelievable and Got To Be Real which are fun songs to dance to. These songs are slower than the other game - more "dancy" and less "jumpy". So it's good to go between them.
