There is a bird coming to my feeders that I have no idea what it is... he has dark blue head/neck...red chest an tummy, lighter/brighter than a cardnial....wings an tail i think are rusty red/dk blue..i really cant tell more as he is a very fast flyer...now for the kicker..he has a bright green back..
He is slightly larger than a sparrow.. beak is a little longer..
I thought at first it was an escaped tropical, but he lives with the sparrows i think in a bambo hedge..he acts like a wild bird..not a tropical? Oh yeah I am in New Orlean,La hopeing some of u birders can help me..he is beautiful...

The bird I was talking about is a Painted Bunting.... Hes so pretty, I hope all of u get a chance to see one.

I'm in Michigan & we 'can' get Painted Buntings up here in migration but I never saw one in person. I think they are just Gorgeous tho! You're very fortunate to see one. What are they eating there?
