I did say it was a working title! LOL. And it's not mine - I was just asked to be interviewed. We'll see how well it turns out. Isn't it funny how you never think you look the way you really do? I saw a shot, and all I could think of was how fat my face looked. Oh, vanity!

I think it definitely needs an edgier title. Something Michael Moorish.

"Fundraisers and Me." "Fundies: Fundraisers or Extremists?"

Haha. Just kidding.

I work as a Jr. Accountant for a non-profit (I won't mention the name online for fear of the crazies--and I don't mean you guys). I started out as a Purchaser--a busy job which suited me well since I like to organize things and am generally methodical--at work.

The finance department is an odd place for a total right-brained person to be. (I've always hated math!) My original major was Art which morphed into English. I never thought I'd ever do what I'm doing. I love it, though, because what I do at my desk helps support others who work with the public.

I write fiction at home after work and hope to be published someday. I've written fiction off and on since I was a child, putting the pen down for a number of years and picking it back up again. This is the third time I've picked up the pen and, even though I've had some writer's block angst, I know I'll never put writing aside again. I love it. I'd really love to flip writing and finance around and write at home full time and volunteer where I work part time. Maybe some day.

I am a head network engineer for the local school system -- more specifically, dealing with networks between school buildings, and the entire wide area network connecting with the Internet. I'm also the head email administrator for the entire 3,500 user system. I've always loved working with computers since I started playing with them in the very early 1980s, and I've made a pretty good career out of it. I have always been good with math, science, and logic, so I am using all of my skills well.

But strangely enough, I can write long, well-organized narratives without worry -- as long as they deal with a logical argument. Ask me to write a fictional story, etc and my mind will lock up faster than anything. smile

I've been intending to take a grant writing course for a year now - just hasn't worked out with my schedule. The Continuing Ed dept of my university offers an online third-party course series that sounds interesting. I've been involved with writing two grants for the rabbit group, but just provided support, didn't lead the effort. It's not that far off from what I do for work, just the marketing/engineering thing has gotten dull (as Trish said, not challenging anymore, at least not in a good way). I just have to convince DH that we can afford for me to take a major pay cut in order to do something I'm passionate about.

This makes a huge difference in mental wellness. When I took this job, I was passionate about grant writing (and I'm still passionate about our cause - I already have a spot on the board waiting for me when I find a teaching job). I call it my passion job: I had to have the passion to accept what they could afford to pay me. I left a job where I made almost double what I do now, but I was so stressed out that I was a raging b*tch and I threw up before I went to work every day. It was a struggle to adapt to the huge pay cut (and it still is, I guess) but you learn to live on what you have, and the gigantic improvement in my quality of life was totally worth it. Now I can walk to work via a foot ferry, I set my own schedule, I work for an amazingly wonderful boss, and I don't miss my old salary at all. After all, I don't plan to say on my death bed that I wish I had worked harder and made more money. I just have a better perspective on things now.

At my fattest a couple of years ago when I had put on weight, I had to appear on a little Saturday morning TV programme and it seemed to me that my face filled the entire screen like a balloon...
