As do I. And another thing, why is Viagra covered on so many insurance plans and Birth control pills not? This is senseless and sexist. Lord knows every man should be able to have sex for free, but women should have to pay to protect herself. The religious right is making sure there will never be a lack of children.

I totally agree! That is why I posted my mini-rant. That subject just doesn't seem fair or right. The religious right has its icky fingers into everything, unfortunately. frown

You know, my biggest problem with the religious right is that you just can't argue with them. Since everything that they say has nothing to do with logic and everything to do with hysterical righteousness, it's like trying to argue with a rabid dog. It just barks so loudly that it covers up everything you say.

It's like last week a friend or ours came over and ended up saying that since (his words) abortion is murder than people are justified in blowing up abortion clinics, because they're stopping murderers, and even though THEY are then murderers, they're stoping the murdering of innocents, so that's justified. It just made me want to barf all over the floor.

If they have the bible behind them, then nothing can stop them -- that is their thought pattern.

Sad beyond words. frown

Not only their thinking on abortion, but on being against stem-cell research!

Remember, you are asking religiously deluded people to think logically. Those two sides never shall meet at a common meeting ground without fighting.

Here is my $.02 on this subject. This may come across as mean, but if it were up to me I'd shut down all fertility clinics immediately. There are lots of starving and underprivileged kids in this country and all over the world. These kids desperately need a good home.
Take the $ spent on fertility treatments, which don't always work, and put it towards adoption instead.

And another thing, why is Viagra covered on so many insurance plans and Birth control pills not? This is senseless and sexist. I agree Kim. I was fortunate that I had zero hassles when I got snipped. Some other members of this group were/are less fortunate. IMO, if any man or woman wants a sterilization they should be able to get it without hassles and lectures. To those that say someone in their early 20s may later regret taking such a permanent action I reply, better that person has regrets later in life rather than putting another human on this earth that wasn't 100% wanted. There is no shortage of unplanned and unwanted pregnancies. Furthermore, there are lots of scout groups, youth groups, big brother/big sister, coaching sports teams etc. that are always in need of adult volunteers.

Well, Mike, I agree with you, so if you get flamed, then fan some of 'em my way!

I don't personally think fertility clinics should all be shut down, but I think that a doctor should have the right to say, "You already have 3 kids, no fertility treatments for you."

You know, the way they currently make judgements about vasectomies and tubals: "You only have two kids? You are only 30? No op for you!"

I personally think people who already have kids who go for fertility treatments are disgusting... wanting to spread their DNA all over the place and pollute the planet! Why do they think THEIR DNA is so special?

I don't really have a problem with someone who really really really wants kids but is having trouble and has none of their own getting fertility treatments. But on that same token, people really should start looking into adoption more.

I absolutely hate Hate HATE utilitarian arguments like that!

Justification to kill a few to save many. Makes me feel sick.
