Cynde - wait, so you don't even put it into the dishwasher??? I don't know if I could use a blender that I didn't dishwash afterwards. I wouldn't think it would be clean if I just ran regular tepid water through it for a few minutes, I would imagine the food bits in the nooks that would be turning moldy and gross in there smile

I was suggesting my blender not because it was super but because it was easy to clean smile

Lisa -- Really, no need to put it into the dishwasher -- no bits of food left. (Only the peanut or cashew butter had me do a little extra with the sponge.) I put a little soap in it with some water and run it on high for just a little bit. Then I rinse it in the sink with any other dishes I have. If you run it for a few minutes, the soapy water will get VERY hot, if that's your concern. You can make hot soup and cold serbert from this wonderful beast! You gotta see one. Try your local Costco -- they have in-store demos about once every 6 weeks or so.

Wouldn't it be easier and safer (health wise) to just rinse it out with hot water then put it in the diswasher? I would worry about leftover residue like peanut oil that my son is highly allergic to.

I don't know that you CAN'T put it in the dishwasher -- but there really is no need to. It heats itself up to steaming so you get the hot water.

You really do have to see this in action -- it is NOT like any regular "blender".

I think I may be a little paranoid, but I like running things through the dishwasher. I would not trust the tap water to come out hot enough - and I wouldn't trust the blender to "make" it hot enough to eliminate bacteria. That's just me smile

I realize of course in the old days that people would hand wash dishes in the sink and that was it, they didn't have dishwashers. But since I have one, I use it for everything.

Yeah, a bit paranoid, perhaps. But here is what Vita-Mix says... Then I'll leave this topic alone. I love my Vita-Mix and would not have any other blender in the house! -- Cynde

"Thank you for contacting Vita-Mix Corp. We do not recommend that the containers be placed in the dishwasher. There are o-rings, washers and bearings in the blade assembly system and since dishwasher temperatures and cycles vary as well as detergents. If you are looking to sanitize your container you can place 2-3 cups of warm water in the container with 1-2 tablespoons of chlorine bleach. Place the lid on the container and lock it in place. Start your machine at variable and #1 and quickly increase the center dial from #1 to #10 and then flip it on high. Run this mixture for about 60 seconds. Once it is completed just shut the machine down. Remove the container and allow it to stand for another 60 seconds. Then pour out and rinse several times. Turn container upside and let air dry."

Wow, that is fascinating! So the blender people themselves say not to dishwash it!

I definitely agree that until recently people didn't even have dishwashers and they survived smile But I'll have to keep on my merry way of disassembling the blender we use after each usage and dishwashing the parts. We really only use it for low carb Bailey's ice cream shakes smile

I use my blender every morning to make smoothies for me and the kids. Once you get used to taking it apart and sticking in the dishwasher every day it isn't that much effort. I'd rather have the kids get a smoothie with fruit, yogurt and milk even if I do have to clean a blender.

I guess with only two of us here we don't run the dishwasher every day - maybe every 2 or 3 days. So we'd need to get 3 blenders smile

I feel like I'm threadmining, but there's no rules against it in this forum...

I too hate the blender cleanup, but how to get breakfast quick and easy?

I like plain yogurt with a little Splenda to relieve the tartness, a couple tablespoons of unsweetened fruit, and some Kashi Go Lean cereal. Calcium, fiber, protein, and fruit in a quick and easy package. I even take it to work; plop everything but the cereal in a storage container, and a baggie of cereal, mix when ready to eat.

The funny part is that I hate yogurt (it's a texture thing) and I don't much care for cereal and milk, but all of it together is almost like a dessert.
