When you close your eyes and think of England, what do you think of?

The deep woods of Sherwood forest?
The ancient streets of London?
The wistful moors?

I think of the quiet farmland and rolling hills, with sheep and a few dairy cows smile

I think of the Silver birches in winter, with their purple branches, The great tree's, woods full of bluebells, like a carpet, The sea crashing on the breakers, buttercups in the sunshine, and the birds, Oh! how beautiful their song in the morning, and the sunrise over the back of my garden. I also think of Strawberries and cream and Twinnings tea, with sandwiches on china plates and teapots! Roaring fires and hot chestnuts. And Bangers and mash, YUM yum!! smile

I think of All Creatures Great and Small by James Herriot and also the old Poldark PBS show that took place in Cornwall.

My picture of England is probably pretty old fashioned but I've always wanted to go there. My dad's family was from Hanbury, England so that's one place that's on my list to go someday.

Glastonbury is always first and foremost in my mind... the serenity of the Abbey, the amazing view from the Tor, the sacred Chalice well, the quirky shops.

Then I remember the vibrant purple lavender fields, driving through Yorkshire, the moors and heather in bloom - it's a beautiful area.

The Lakes District with its farms and quiet towns.

The Shambles in York.

Riding the trains into London and the Tube.

The coolness of majestic cathedrals with their kaleidescope of stained glass, and the sense of awe and wonder they inspire.

Yes, James Herriot was fantastic. I had forgotten about 'All Creatures agreat and Small'! That was a nice innocent funny 'feel good' series. Thankyou for reminding me! smile

Have you read all the books? They were terrific. I didn't get to see all of the TV series but I was going to check Blockbuster online and see if, by chance, they had them.

I have not read the books, I think I read one, but I watched the series all the time. It was so good.
