I give things away via our local Freecycle all the time. Our local economy is so bad that it really does help those in need without them needing to try to qualify for social services. Besides, social services won't buy music instruments for kids and such.

I agree. I have seen such waste. Really good furniture, office equipment, childrens toys, just being dumped down the local tip! All because people either do not know or have not the time to get the stuff to a charity shop!!
I have had hard times re money in my life, so I am no stranger to second hand goods. Pity more people don't know about these options of reusing.
The amount of name brand stuff I have from Charity shops has saved me pounds!!
To dump it is outragous!

I agree with you Nicola. I shop at my local Goodwill store and Salvation Army store. I have bought things from clothes to television sets for next to nothing.

My wife loves the Goodwill store so she can pick up scrapbooking stuff. We never throw away things we can't use. We bring them right to the Goodwill store as it is only a couple of blocks from our apartment.

The Freecycle is awesome as well. We love looking at the stuff that people are giving away. However, you do get a few people on there who try and sell stuff.

What about Craigslist? Anyone ever checked that out for their area?
