Hi, My name is Amber and I am becoming a VERY new vegetarian. I came here for help and support through this process. I have only gone without meat for 2 days and I don't miss it that much but my situation is every in my family including my fiance eats meat. My grandparents even have a cow farm and are loaded with meat so they completely don't agree not eating it. So that is my situation.

Thank You,
Amber Rae

Amber, you can do it if you wish. I have been vegetarian since 1976 and vegan since 1993. My parents cannot understand, friends have problems with it. I'm happy with it and that's all that counts.

I totally agree with pondlady. It should be YOU who decides what you want to do. I've been vegetarian 5 years (since age 13), and vegan for over 2. I did it for MY love of animals, MY health, MY planet. My fiance is vegan also, but because of me. smile I used to tell him I wouldn't kiss him unless he brushed his teeth. The toothbrush/paste carrying in the car got a little old for him so he gave up and went vegan. Now he loves it!

I'm glad to see so many veggies here. I'm one too. Gave up meat a decade ago. I feel lot better.........physically and mentally.

Read this long time back; The human system is designed for veg food and not meat. Herbivorous animals have long intestines and carnevorous have short intestines. I'm sure everybody know this humans have long intestines. Makes sense.

I went veg about 1990. A few friends are also, but most people I know including my husband & immediate family are all carnivores. Luckily the husband eats veg at home except in the very ocassional case that he cooks some free range organic meat (he's very considerate about cleanliness and his meat stuff not touching anything else!).

I'm not vegan so can easily find veg stuff in most situations. My family doesn't get it but they eventually got used to it. The husband knew what he was getting into. Good luck!

Hey amber and everyone else,
Ive been veggie for over half my life and i can safely say i don't ever look back. I was quite young when I decided to change, which admittedly probably made the process a bit easier (apart from my grandma on my case the whole time about how ill i was gonna get!) It is hard when your family don't back you, especially if you are living with them but there are so many easy veggie recipes around that its never too much trouble for you to whip up a separate dish or adapt one that's already being cooked. I get a lot of mine from this siteBellaOnline ALERT: Raw URLs are not allowed in these forums for security reasons. Please use UBB code. I would love to say i am a veggie fulltime but i am not. 3-5 times a month, i eat some KFC or some baked fish. There are just some things that i will eat every so often. I believe in a little balance yet i still consume about 70% of my diet as veggies or fruits. The other 25-29% is legumes or whole grains.

Please pick up the book "Skinny [censored]". It is not what it sounds. It is about eating healthy on a veg. lifestyle. The book was written by a model and a woman that worked for a modeling agency. I thought..."this book is probably so dumb" but not at all. There are also suggestions on food choices...WARNING: Also, a section on how BADLY animals are treated for slaughter. I made myself read that section b/c it is a reality, but it made me thankful I don't add to the slaughter of helpless animals. Good luck. I suggest the book to all!!! Let me know what you think..

If you could read the article I just read on the internet where 143 million pounds of beef were being recalled - you might think about becoming veggie!!

This was part of an animal abuse investigation. Guess where the meat was headed? Schools - for lunches.

Even worse - some of the beef has already been eaten. Even if it was not tainted - I think I would be sick just knowing that I had some.

I had wanted to become completely veggie by the end of this year anyway. This has definitely motivated me to proceed even faster with my new lifestyle.

Right on Jzel - if you folks knew what was going on with the animals you were eating.......you would run away from the meat counter at the supermarket.

143 million pounds of beef...........the company supplied schools meat for lunches....wow....

I'm almost 57 and I've never eaten meat. My parents became vegetarian before I was born. So you can live healthy and not eat meat. My husband is mostly happy to be vegetarian at home but chooses meat if he wants it when we go out (although he doesn't always want it). When we have guests if we have meat eaters my husband does the cooking because I don't even know how to cook meat.
