Even though I made my decision at 29 to be CF, I did re-think it at 36 when DH got his vas. It was final and I wanted to make sure I was okay with it.

I'm not a "regret-filled" person either. Once I decide something, I try not to look back because of an emotional moment. And that's all it is, just a moment.

Maybe she means a baby dog, or cat. ^_^ My guy just said to me last night that our "kitten" IS our kid, especially how we all act with each other.

Does anyone know the age or up to rather that you can have children? I've heard of people having them in their later forties but sweating all of the genetic ramifications of waiting.

Just wondering.

Strangly, I ended up child free by infertility rather than by choice at age 29, but my husband and I have really grown to love our child-free lifestyle (and now wouldn't have it any other way). I'm now 35 and he's 42.

The cut-off limit varies quite a bit from person to person. My family tends to be "late bloomers" but last WAY too long. My mother couldn't stand that she was still getting her periods in her 50's, and wound up getting a hysterectomy before they'd stop! However, genetically things start going downhill for you in your 40's, and this is especially true for MEN! (for some reason nobody ever bothers thinking if the sperm is good quality, only if the mother can carry the fetus. I recently read that the man's chance of siring a child with some sort of defect (can't remember which one) is six times as likely after he's 40.

This fact is often overlooked GreyDrakkon...
In fact men can't donate semen after age 40 - it's now pretty clear men over 40 are more likely to produce sperm with genetic defects.
I read an amazing article a few months back that linked the increase in the number of children with autism to older fathers - also, asperger's syndrome and schizophrenia...
Close friends decided to have kids last year - (she's 36 & he's 43) they conceived identical twin girls with serious genetic defects - the geneticist/specialists recommended an abortion.
They were probably just unlucky but they were told that men over 40 are more likely to produce sperm with genetic defects.
The wife is very careful with her diet, exercises, doesn't drink alcohol, tea or coffee etc. The husband drinks a lot...I personally think he is an alcoholic - everyone seems to accept his behaviour is normal because he's always behaved this way...every time we go out or they join us for dinner, the husband gets drunk...I have no idea whether that would affect his sperm but it certainly doesn't help his overall health.
One of my colleagues in Sydney has a close friend with two sons - both are autistic. Her husband was late 40s/early 50s when they were born...
