Here in Mid Michigan we have this thing called Freecycle where local people post on the internet that they are getting rid of things for free and they also post that they are looking for things. Do you have one in your county?

You may want to check it and see. My wife belongs to the one here so I couldn't tell you exactly how to find one except for typing freecycle into your google window and see what pops up.

Check it out. It is free after all.

We have it here (Ontario, Canada) too Vance. I've been a member for about a year. There is a main site that hooks people up with groups in their area. My group maintains contact through a yahoo list.

Here's the link are group had on it's page

I'm a freecycler too! I actually belong to three local freecycling groups. :-)

We have freecycle where I live and I recently got a desk for my office! Plus I've given away small bikes for my kids and gotten larger ones, all through freecycle.

It's fun to browse the items on there and it's always fun to get a good deal. I try to give away as well as find things I need.

I think it's a wonderful idea! I belong to my local chapter as well. I told my readers about it in an article on home improvement.

It's a great concept. I've used it and written about it: FreeCycle Free Online Recycling

I've used it a few times.

On the pro side, it can help you get rid of clutter that you don't want to haul away.

On the con side, sometimes people don't show up when promised, so you're waiting and stuck with stuff you want gone. Also not everyone is comfortable with strangers coming to their home.

I'm careful about people coming to my home as a single mom. I met them in a parking lot in town and took my brother with me!

I've had good luck with people showing up tho.

That sounds so useful. I think there must be websites for it in the UK. But I have yet to find one! Does anyone know of one? I hope to use them when I find out, I think recycling is great and freecycling is even better!! There is one in Birmingham, but thats miles away, how does it work, can you package stuff up and send it?

Yaay Nicola Jane - of course there is ! We belong - just type in freecycle and your county name.

PS I am getting rid of a brand new kiddy bike-trailer ! What I would really like though, is to swap if for something I DO need - like a new climbing frame! No not for me, lol, though all this work does drive me nuts sometimes - I am not a monkey! - its for the kids!

Thanks for that, I will type in kent, UK n' see what comes up. We have loads of stuff I'd like to swap, though finding the time to do it could be a challenge!! Pity one can't recycle time!!!!
