No flak for that - thanks for the post. It's so refreshing to hear from someone who is realistic about parenting, because so many people just aren't, and then WE'RE the ones that cop flak for pointing it out ...

I sometimes think that expectant mothers deserve their time in the limelight, because when that short time is over, you have a lifetime of c**p to deal with. Enjoy it while you can!!

Thanks for that interesting post, Eleise. Wouldn't it be lovely if more people had your realistic outlook? Romanticising parenthood helps no-one, least of all the child.

You sound to me like you're trying very hard to be a well rounded parent, Elleise. Your daughter probably feels lucky to have you.

Eleise- if more parents were like you then we wouldn't have anything to talk about on this thread!

Life as a CF person would be so much easier, the planet and society would be under control... it boggles the mind. Seriously.

Eleise, I'm confused why you thought you would take heat for your post? I agree with almost everything you said. Maybe you meant other parents would be upset?

I've thought about all of the stuff that you mentioned, and decided that it's not for me. This is based on a million things, and my personality make up, too. Some people can roll with the punches, and can take things in stride better than I can. I know that people's personalities don't change completely because they are parents. My Dad still freaks out every time someone spills a drink, and I freak out about stuff like that, too. To many Moms, it's no big deal, and they don't care that they just mopped the floor. I also know I would be supremely unhappy as a parent, which isn't good for a mother or a child. I applaud your reality check. It sounds like you make a good parent bc you are grounded in reality. Bravo!

Eleise, we've had a good many mothers come into our forum and say things designed to inflame us, but I applaud you for being a mother and still using your brain (I REALLY do not mean that to be rude!). Parenthood is work, not la-la-land, and I am glad that you are willing to speak up about it and enforce the idea that parents need to be realistic about having children. Thank you for coming and adding a nicely said, well-thought-out point of view. We'd be more open to inviting mothers to add their two cents here if they were more willing to be honest with themselves and others.

I agree with Myra - your daughter sounds like she's lucky to have you.
