WOW, before I read far enough I was about to ask the question what MILF meant. Can you imagine what it would be like to be raised by a person like that? This kind of thinking, labeling and level of vanity makes me want to upchuck. I wonder if women that think along those lines are among those that are discussed here; the ones who just have children because they think they should.

Slightly off topic, but I find the discussion of INTERESTING places to live well...interesting. College towns have a lot to offer, but the traffic can be a killer. DH and I have discussed Asheville, NC but that decision is quite a way down the road.

Yes, the whole MILF thing is definitely puke-worthy. I was appalled that someone would actually introduce themselves that way. I think the idea came from teen sons, whose friends would tell them, "Your mom is a MILF." The mom's got wind of it, and decided, "That's cool! I want my teenage son's friends to think I'm hot." It's kind of a backlash against the whole stereotyping of "Mom's" as being boring, grumpy, unattractive drudges from all the childbirth and disciplining they have to do.

It's one thing to have your son's friends say it, but to call YOURSELF that is annoying and really conceited. Sorry, but just being a size 0 does not make a person sexy. I think sexiness comes from a lot more than just clothing size (and being a stick isn't a requirement).

frieda, I whole-heartedly agree! i personally think self-esteem is a lot sexier than a clothing size (fortunately, my DH agrees).

I think the saddest thing about my "MILF" SIL is that she has two DAUGHTERS, so this is the example she's setting for them. That, and having been married twice before age 30 (kids each have diff. dads) and having a YEAR-long affair during separation from DH#2 (and now back together with him). Yep, that's a great role model for my nieces. Just don't whine to me when they're knocked up at 16.

I live in London but in quite a suburban part. I'm also near a park. So there are lots of kids say a block away and a few in our street.

For me it's my work, I have lots of reasons I want to move on in the future but the bingos the "when are you two having kids?" "Why don't you have kids?" and all that comes into it a bit.

As far as living places go well on one hand we may stay in the UK. On the other hand I would LOVE to live and work in the USA, Japan, Dubai and maybe spend 2 years in Egypt. Now as i want to live and work in those countries, I am not going to let a culture of kid worry me there! (Actually, I get more bingos at work in the UK than in Egypt, in fact it was like "Do you have kids (or babies.) When I said no, NOBODY asked why (in Egypt) they just said "OK" and changed the subject.
In my job in the UK
I get WHY? but WHY? Oh you SHOULD! and all this.
Maybe cause I'm a teacher and we work with kids.
I am lucky to have two childfree friends in London but I'm not "bare my soul, I can tell you ANYTHING and let my guard down around you" friends with them although I like their company.
My friends in New Zealand well they are a group of gay guys and we are all friends with each other and NONE of them want kids! But they live there and I live here.
And YES I would STILL like - no make that LOVE! - to have more childfree friends!! And I'd also LOVE to have a childfree couple for me and hubby to hang out with. The only couple we hang with have a baby although they are nice - like I've mentioned, we're already noticed some changes though! - it'd be lovely to have a childfree couple to hang with.
And yes I tried to get the London no kidding group working it'd fallen by the wayside, but nothin doing!
I would move if I were surrounded by out of control teenagers but then again I think a lot of people would!
Luckily the nearest teens - our neighbours - are really lovely!!! (Thank God!)

I leave the child-rearing to people who feel called to it. I've never felt that call.

Isn't that like that movie American Beauty?

Anyway, I totally agree Tbunny that the saddest part is they're showing their daughters how to be this way.

It just dawned on me why I think it's so inane to claim you're a MILF. They're saying, "Hi, I'm a Mom I'd like to f***."

Gee, that makes a huge amount sense. So you'd like to f*** yourself? Have a great time then, but TMI, ya know?

If a guy said that about me, I might be flattered or creeped out or whatever, but I would never go around bragging that all men want me. That's just so obnoxious.

Yeah, I think it does sound like American Beauty. You are really funny, but that's true. It's just gross. When you are a Mom, you have to act like one. I think Moms can be as nasty as they want in the bedroom or behind closed doors. But I think you shouldn't act all trashy in front of your kids' friends. I've known single Moms that would have loved to be called MILFs.

I think women oversex themselves because they think that's what men want. My husband has a co-worker that we have started hanging out with on weekends. He's okay, except that every woman he comes across seems to belong in two categories: 1. I want to f#k her. 2. She's not trying hard enough to be in category 1.

I think it's just disgusting and it creeps me out because I don't want to be in EITHER category, thank you! Yet, when I talked to my husband about this, he says that this is somewhat common for men.

I mean, I just want to be a PERSON. Why can't I just be that?

What? That's common for men? Your guy must be hanging out with some real asshats then, because I don't think I've ever encountered one in a social situation that, you know, required more social graces than saying wiping your fingers on the front of your shirt.
