On February 7th, 2008, the Chinese New Year, Nick Jr. will premiere its first children's animated program based on Chinese-American culture. The show is called "Ni Hao, Kai-Lan" and children will learn about Chinese culture, the Mandarin Chinese language, as well as valuable skills they can use in every day life.

Children will follow Kai-lan, a Chinese-American preschooler, as she goes on adventures with her family and animal friends including a panda and a tiger which are traditional Chinese animals.

Kai-lan's first adventure will feature a Dragon Boat Festival in celebration of the Chinese New Year! This episode will premiere on 2/7/08 at 11 a.m. on the Nickelodeon network.

This is a fantastic opportunity for children to learn about one of the most important cultures in the world.

I am very excited about this. Dora had better watch out! Kai-lan might just blow her right out of the water. smile

This sounds so cool, Heather. Kai-lan just might give Dora's backpack and map to "Sniper". Tee Hee!

Thanks for letting us know about this! I found growing up Chinese-American I didn't have many role models that I could relate to (blonde or African American Barbies) and I'm hoping my daughter will get better exposure to the world. Nick has done a few multicultural programs and I've been pretty impressed with them taking these on!

Speaking of New Years, I can't wait for the new year to start! Really looking forward to changes in fortune and a chance to start clean =).
