Myrabeth, You go girl!! I absolutely agree. I'm really tired of politicians and political appointees being grilled to see if they agree with the prevailing political group.
And i agree about abortions still being available. Many, many years ago, over 35, i had an abortion and had to go to Mexico because they were illegal in my state. Fortunately, the clinic i went to was run by the Los Angeles Free Clinic and we were sent AFTER being checked out at that clinic. Also, the L.A. clinic made sure that the abortions were not medically compromised. Thank God for that!
Besides, if they make abortions illegal m/b they should require men to only have sex when they are going to use their sperm for procreation and sign a legally binding agreement saying that they will emotionally and financially support their children. Ya, sure!

I've heard of candidates being pro-life in their own values, but not enforcing it by wanting to make abortion illegal. Really? I've yet to meet a pro-lifer that doesn't want to force their ideal on everyone else, even if by just whittling away at it little by little.

In my heart of hearts, I am a pro-lifer. However, I believe the choice for a woman to have an abortion should be between her and God. It should not be the government's job to outlaw abortion.
If you outlaw abortion, then only outlaws will perform them and then women will face the chance of some back alley doctor performing it and also taking the chance that it will do more harm than good.
The government should be worried about the war in Iraq. The government should be worried about the country's deficit. The government should be worried about saving the Social Security system, welfare reform, homelessness, healthcare, unemployment, crooked politicians.
If they put all the energy they do for abortion or same sex marriages into the other stuff, this country would be a lot better off.
The government needs to get its priorities straight and we need to make sure the right people get into office to do this. Of course that is near impossible because they all make great promises but somehow forget them once they are into office.

Angela, that's exactly why I started this thread. After having looked at the standpooints of the various candidates, I ended up with a bad taste in my mouth. I think maybe people don't know what they are getting themselves into this year by voting Republican. It sounds like some scary times ahead!

Vance- unfortunately, it's the public that influences politics, and it's the people's priorities that are wrong. I know quite a few people who vote on the topic of abortion and abortion only. Hang everything else, just as long as the candidate is pro-life.
I hate politicians, but they're not living in a vacuum. They arise from the demands of the populous. Unfortunately, the populous could use a good kick in the head.

That is true Tress. I guess it doesn't matter whom you vote for because one candidate can say all of the right things to get elected and then laugh about it after being elected.
We need to call for an impeachment on the first president who breaks a promise that got him or her elected.
Think they would learn then?
Its too bad more candidates can't be like the ones in these movies: "Dave" with Kevin Klein and Sigourney Weaver and "Man of the Year" with Robin Williams.
Tress btw what does your quote mean: The cake is a lie?

Vance, unfortunately, I think we'd impeach all of our presidents before they spent an hour in office. But you know, I'm a pessimist.
"The cake is a lie" is from a video game called Portal. I loves it.

Portal, huh? Never heard of it. What game system is it on or is it a PC game?
