My hair is waist length for the first time in 30 years - since I was a ballet dancer. I don't color or curl it but do have it trimmed in layers once a year and that lets it lay in waves.

The longest my hair has ever been is 4-5 inches below my shoulders. At that time I was exercising religiously and drinking protein shakes. I hate protein shakescry! Any tips on growing it out quickly?

So Ladylike,
It sounds like you had the formula back then.
Here are some articles from some of the study I have done on the subject.

I voted Hip Length but I'm actually Tailbone length.
I am maintaining 36" - 40" measured from forehead back.
Basically as long as I can have without sitting on it.
And this is my longest.

Wow, I am SO impressed by the long hair in this thread! I get so tired of my own once it is mid-back length because I can't do ANYTHING with it. Brava!

I voted for shoulder length. It's passed this, but not really mid-back length yet, so I took what I had for sure.
My goal is simple, but hard at the same time: repairing my current hair and letting it grow even longer. My goal is mid-back and with time waist length. I just wished I was already there, something which a lot of you here will surely understand. Still, healthy and shiny hair is the first priority.

After waiting a LONG time I had the guts to get the split ends and damaged parts removed (at least 1-2 inches was gone) and now the next step presents itself: taking good care of it, and finding alternatives to perming (done perms twice, don't think I will do them soon again because of the damage and the cost) and fighting the pulling...

Guess what? I give massages and reiki. More info here!

Rosie,

You may want to try asking the stylist to turn the chair around so you can't see what they are doing until it's finished. This is very common, and I'm sure they will do it for you.

Many women hide behind their long hair, even when it isn't the most flattering style for them. Just think what a confidence boost a great cut and perhaps color will give you! Look at pictures of your favorite celebrities to get ideas. When you have hair as long as yours, your options are endless. I'm not a counselor, but I can say this, not taking this step will do nothing but keep you feeling insecure. You have to make a decision if you want to look and feel better about yourself, or if you want to continue with the road you are on now. Self esteem is something you need to be proactive about, so go for it!

Best of Luck!
