No harm done silverstangboy, I hope you found the info you were looking for. Sometimes it's hard to know where to look with all of the posts in here.
On another note, wow! I didn't know you had a betta who is 4 and a half katy, that's awesome! I thought 14 months was doing pretty good lol.

New Here and have a question. I just noticed today that my betta is swimming to thr right! So I kept watching him trying to figure that out. Then it looked like his body was crooked (from swimming like that). We have been noticing very recently that our two cats have been drinking water from the fish bowl.......so I keep looking 'cause something just doesn't look right. Then I realize. He no longer (barely) has the top fin! I can't remeber what they usually have but he is using the "little fins" on each side to swim. Don't they usually have bigger ones on the side? He seems okay but I think one of the cats got the tops fin or something. I am definatly going to cover the top now with something that has holes any advice?

hey guys, today spot was a little slow to eat, I was a little curious as to why, but he did eventually eat... it wasn't his normal time to eat and I think he just took a minute to figure out that it was dinner time.. but he did eat his normal amount. however he seems to be blowing the beginings of a bubble nest, to which looks like foam around the linings of the tank. still seems to be injoying the bigger thank.

so im happy which is good cause I don't make much and today I took a 500 dollar blow at work.. so I needed a little cheer up from everyone, and that includes my fish

my friend that i've been talking about (my girlfriend to be exact) her fish with the ich seems to be getting better, he's more energitic today and the white spots look like they're starting to go away. so Knock on wood, but im starting to feel a little accomplished on the betta parenting.. thanks to everyone here especially jilly, for all the great infomation for a newbie

I found a few things about owning my betta to be pretty interesting. im suprised at spots' personality for example, he does not like for me to point at him, but if I stand in front of the tank, he does alot of impressive swimming like showing off, that I refer to as "dancing", he also has become very comfortable with being close to my hand and even didn't mind me touching him with my finger the other day (though I don't think im going to do that much, that would probably take all his slim coat off) but one thing that I thought was neat is all this foamy bubble stuff he's been blowing everywhere, I did a search on the forums to find that I don't think anyone has posted an example of a betta's bubblenest and I wanted to know if this picture im attaching is considered to be the beginings of one.

Yeah, that's definitely a bubble nest.

My betta, Gus, is not an avid bubble nest maker. He's too busy swimming around so it seems. But when he does blow them, he makes like a chain all around the rim of the tank instead of an actual nest and every once in a while he'll make a real nest, but it's always pretty small and unimpressive. Then in a few days, it's completely disappeared! Is he sabotaging his own work??

Congratulations silverstangboy, spot must be pretty happy! I'm glad your girlfriends' betta is doing better. My betta breaks the water so loudly that I can hear him working on his nest. He does it when he thinks I'm not there to see him. It's neat how different their personalities are.

Hope someone can advise me..I posted on the Betta Personalities thread about my boys, but now I think I have a health problem with one of them. I did a 20-30% water change on Saturday, but because the water that I had set out the night before was at only 68 degrees, I put hot water right from the faucet into the room temp water unit it got up to about 75.My boys,Morris and Boris are in the 2 gal. hex tanks one with 15 watt light bulb, and one with 5 watt, gravel, soft rubber plant and cave, each has own tank. I took the gravel out and thourghly rinsed it, saved part of their water, but did not rinse the plants and caves, thinking I would keep some of the good biologivcal bacteria that way, I rinsed the tanks, put them back together, using Splendid Betta water conditioner at 12 drops per quart, and I measured the new water in quart canning jar to the top so I would be accurate. I noticed about an hour after the water change that the water in both tanks was not nice and clear, but somewhat cloudy..they both have an oto with them, in fact Morris had 2 of them, very small ones. His water did not clear up as the day went on, but he ate okay, but I just had a feeling that I should set water out overnight again, because I might have to do a full change on sunday. Sure enough Sunday morn, Morris was not acting right, so I went to lps and got some StressZyme, to try and junp past the new tank snydrome, got him brand new rocks, a new plant and did a 100 percent change on both of them. When I took Morris out and started removing the water form saturday, it smelled sour, and when I got it to the sink and dumped the rocks into a strainer, it really stunk. Boris's was not stinky like that at all, and his wasn't as cloudy, but I did a full chnage, bought new rocks,a nd scrubbed both his and Morris bridge and cave with water so hot I thought it would take my skin off, I actually bought Morris a differnt tank , 2 gal hex with 15 watt light..I don't know what caused this fouling of the water, but Boris' tank is okay now, but Morris seems to be slightly cloudy again, and I can see something that looks like a strand of a cobweb here and there in his tank. so last night after feeding , i took out 3 turkey basters of water, put water back in with conditioner, and took his lid off and put an air stone in to aerate the water, because again it had strong smell. Any ideas what I have going on?? I don't want to lose my little marbled boy!!!!

per my prev post, i just left the bubbler in for about 15 minutes, thinking it would help dissipate any ammonia or nitrate in the water, but the Stresszyme should have helped with that, right?

just an update, Morris came out to greet me the night of the 7th, he ate a little better, but I went ahead and got some Betta Fix to add to his tank, just to see if it would help, and he seems tobe back to his normal self..don't know what happened but appears to be gone now.
