My mom's school district is messed up. They have SOOO many kids (many are immigrants or children of immigrants) that they have to keep pushing them through, so even if the kids need to be held behind, they aren't. They're too crowded. And more and more don't speak English well ... even if they were born here. It's very hard on the teachers, and some of the kids enjoy yelling obscenities in Spanish at the teachers while the others laugh.
She does have a lot more good kids now that she's not with the BD kids. I don't think she's had any real problems with them. Their school has been on lockdown a few times due threats they've received, and they've had bomb threats and stuff like that.
One problem is that most of the kids she teaches are in gangs, so now they have to be careful who they put in what classroom so that they don't put rival gang members in the same class.
Kind of makes you yearn for good ol' fashioned knuckle-wrapping with rulers.
