Jo Frost doesn't have time for kids of her own! She's too busy teaching parents that their title is also a verb!

Seriously, though, I applaud her work. More people like Jo and Lisa out there training parents could make a world of difference.

I don't think I could be nice enough long enough, I have the impression of alot of parents that they have clearly donated their brain at the time the baby was born.

I can't tell you how often I have to stifle myself to keep from screaming "what are you thinking?" to parents.

My daughters friend is an example. Amy is allowed to stay up until 10-11 at night on school nights...what are you thinking? That explains why this kid is such a grouch so much of the time. My daughter normally goes to be at 8pm. I did some reading and doctors recommend children their age (which is 10) get 10 hours of sleep.

She lets her daughter run around, go do things and generally mess around BEFORE she does her homework...My daughter comes home from school, gets a snack, rests if she needs to and then does her homeworkd BEFORE she goes out too play with friends or settles in to play a video game or watch the Disney channel.

Then there is the whole thing where she won't eat, she drinks milk alot. The other night she made chicken wings just like Amy likes and asked for and then Amy refused to eat them and started crying and ran to her room. That would NEVER happen in my house. She told me too that Amy kicks up a fuss when they are in the car and her Mother plays the radio, Amy pretends to gag and says the music makes her sick. It would take all my energy to keep me from slapping the little actress. Diane tried that gagging thing with me over some food once, I told her that I could tell she was faking and that if she actually did throw up, she was going to clean it up herself. Surprise, she never did throw it up.

NO, I'm definely NOT having another child. Nor do I want to be around others children either. I have some friends here in my neighborhood whose kids are older, they are actually cool to talk to and interesting as well. No more little kids for me.

And Amy would go hungry until the morning. She'd only pull that stunt once. My nephew tried that one on me - I took him out to dinner in Vegas while my parents went to a show. He made a great drama of choosing his meal (which cost a fortune on the exchange rate), and then decided he didn't want it. When we left, he was standing in the mall looking at the McDonalds and asking if we could go there. No, we can't. He went home to bed, whining and complaining about how hungry he was. But for the rest of the trip, if I was in charge, he ate what was in front of him. Funny, that.

Talk about making a rod for your own back.

My coworker was telling me about her 7 year old son today. They're finishing their basement, and renovating the upstairs bathroom. He wanted to have a bath because he was cold and dirty after school. So he was told he could have one, on the condition that he DIDN'T splash the water around in amongst all the renovations.

So what did he do? He filled the tub to the top and proceeded to do his best impression of a tsunami.

When he'd finished, there was water all over the new drywall, and all over the new bare floor (and you just know that's going to warp). The water ran down the exposed pipes, soaked through the floor into the basement ceiling and probably ruined that drywall, and caused a small flood in the downstairs laundry.

He's lucky that she is his mother and he's only grounded, and is not allowed out to play for as many weeks as it takes Dad to fix the damage. Because if he was mine, I'd be burying him...

Firstly Lisa_Orlando you sound like a fantastic parent!!!!! And your daughter is lucky to have you.

Secondly I just remembered that I have a CF colleague who is now 50 and not long before her birthday when she found out I didn't want kids she looked me straight in the eye and said "Best decision I ever made."
(And yes she meant NOT to have them cos she doesn't have any.)

I leave the child-rearing to people who feel called to it. I've never felt that call.
