You hit the nail on the head - they do have that inate ability to judge humans, and I cannot love a person that dislikes cats!

Thanks for sharing that info with another cat person smile

First, I think it's time to admit that I'm jealous of my SIL. I think it's because she'll be filling a void in my in-laws' life that I will never be able to. Rather, that I never want to.

Second, I am not really a "cat person" but I really like cats.

The guilt that I, as the only male child of my family, *should* have a child, still peeps through sometimes. Not very often, mind you, but enough that it never totally disappears.

And I *love* cats -- always have. But my wife is allergic to them.

People who don't like cats are intimidated by intelligence. I think alot of men don't like them because they are not 'obedient'.

LOL! That's good. That must explain why when it's time to bring the cat in at night, I'm always the one who has to do it. It's not like she comes when I call any more than when he calls...she's a cat after all, and she'll come when she's good and ready...but I'm patient and if she doesn't come I'll go back out in 20 min. and call again.

I like that! Maybe that is why I like cats? I am not obedient either!!

Lmgilbert, I think you bring up a great point. I contemplated whether I was jealous but then thought-WHY? I don't want a kid! I had not thought of it in the way you have. I think I feel jealous and a bit sad that they are giving my parents what society unfortunately considers to be the "greatest gift". I will not be giving that gift. I don't want to and I should be relieved that they are doing it.

psychologically speaking, my brother has always been the "good kid" and in a way this is like another experience where he does the right thing and makes them happy and I am the outlaw, the rebel. I am 32 and this [censored] should not bother me. It is funny though how that stuff never goes away!

So I think this is part of my difficulty. But also, I really just don't feel anything for babies. I try, but it does not come. I am not a heartless person, though this makes me feel that way. It is like I am missing something in my brain chemistry....
