Here is a very simple but profound guideline to practice Meditation.
You have to study it carefully. Practice as instructed. Once you start practicing, these things become very simple and it becomes as easy as you walk or talk effortlessly. It is because Meditation is our original state as sleep is.
Study it. Practice Meditation.
M E D I T A T I O N
Select any convenient time in your daily schedule.
The time for Meditation should be relaxed.
It should not have very rigid schedule.
Keep one hour in your day for practice of Meditation.
Select a comfortable place which you feel more comfortable.
Keep 30 minutes for Meditation on the first day.
Posture:
Meditation has to be practiced with sitting posture with closed eyes.
You can either sit on a chair with crossed legs or on a mat in Sukhasana.
You can lean on a wall or cushion on the back for support and comfort.
The sitting posture should be stable and comfortable for you to sit for Meditation.
Way to do Meditation:
After sitting in a comfortable posture:
Clasp your fingers and cross your legs
Close your eyes gently.
Relax...
Take 5-6 deep breaths...
Take in-breath ...hold for few seconds release out-breath slowly.
Relax...
Stop doing breathing. Relax...
Now just witness the breath...
Watch Breath within the nostrils...
Breath is happening on its own way.
Just witness the flow of Breath.
In-breath....out-breath...
Just be with the Breath...
Let the breath be on its own...
Just witness...
Thoughts may come in between.
Just witness the breath...
Thought slowly disappear on its own...
Just witness...
Allow it to flow..either thoughts...or Breath...
Just witness the breath...or thought...
Thought slowly disappear on its own...breath also slows down...
Be with the breath...just witness...
Just be

Close your session when you feel completely relaxed...fresh...bliss...
Slowly open your eyes.
Come out of the session.

Thank you for sharing this. Just one note to anyone who reads this:

If sitting cross-legged, or even sitting at all, is too uncomfortable or even painful, you can also use a reclining position. A word of warning, however, is that it's usually best to do your reclining meditation somewhere other than your bed or any other place which your mind may associate with sleep or even napping.

Guided meditations, ones learned or ones we listen to from a recording or a friend reading it to us, can be a deeply inspirational way to begin exploring your own psyche, or, when they add a visualized sacred space or journey to the script, as a way to begin experiencing your own inner-worlds.

Moerdryn, it is so true that reclining meditations should be away from your bed. And, I too find some guided listening meditations very inspiring.

I am reading a book called "Meditation - Now or Never" by steve Hagen. He also wrote "Buddhism Plain and Simple". Both are really good books.

I started doing meditation from a yoga video with Rodney Yee. He incorporated a relaxing meditation at the beginning and end.

I think sometimes people expect meditation to be something very different from just resting your mind, kind of non-thinking, which is what it really is. People tend to make it seem more difficult that it truly is. Steve Hagen's book explains it very well.

I like this meditation that we did when I was a child in school altho it was not called a meditation and it is easy!

first you lay down or sit comfortably anywhere as long as your not driving! lol

then close your eyes and picture someplace you would like to go like a forest, meadow, beach or another planet!!!!

now see it as a picture on the wall of your eyeleads!
feel your self float into the picture so that you are inside the picture. feel what it feels like to be in the picture then slowly make the picture come to life hear the sounds of the beaches, foreast, meadow, or planet. breath the air and relax as your imagination takes over.

when your ready revease these steps and open your eyes.

I use to love this!!! and now I can add music and feel the music and float away into the land of music and song .

Imagination time or quite time... if they had called in meditation the parents would have fliped out because that is "opening doors the devil can walk through" and "leading the children away from God" so....they called a rose and flower and made everyone happy!!! lol

Freebubbles, why did the kids make fun of you? don't answer if you don't feel comfortable sharing. I'm curious. kids can be so cruel.

I'm just learning to meditate. I know some folks don't have to 'learn' to meditate, but it's something I've never done till about 3 months ago and it is difficult fo rme to discipline my mind to relax and not let 'rubbish' in. I think you all know wha tI mean. Anyway....I'm going to work on Susan's lesson and see what happens. I just recently received the Munay Ki rites and meditation came easily during the ceremonies, but now that I'm on my own, it's become difficult again.

oh were to start...well I was fat and I had glasses for a time that i didnt need so I ran into things (I was dyslexic and there for the eye charts were no accurit) I was deslexic and could not read out loud although I could read to myself but I hated it so much because of course the teachers think you have to read out loud or you dont know who.... then the fact that my father died before i started school so the other kids moms called me a basturd so the kids did to (well until i found out what the word ment and almost beat the pulp out of a kid twice my size...) My aunt was a teacher...

the kids had alot of reasons to pick on me. that way during quite time I turned them into rock or butterflys the ones that i turned into butterflies I like because they said something nice at somepoint in time and that made them nice no matter how roiten they were....the others I turned to rocks and put on a rail road track and the train ran over them!!!! (my dad was a rail roader and worked as a forman on the mantaince crew and we liked to take rocks or a penny and put on the track then watchfly from far off then try to find it. I never could but it kept me busy!!!) during quiet time I just had the tain run them over and if I really got mad at them i would find the rock and have the train run it over and over and over.......and over... yeah I had a lot of anger issues! LOL

if you are more auditory then the tapes will help or chanting but if you are visual then try getting a picture to focus on
or if your more touchy feely try prayer beads or it you are emotional try focusing in on one emotion like joy, happyness and love.....

hope this helps!

freebubbles,
I don't know what to say. My heart is open to you, I hope you'll come inside. You've had a rough time of it; I don't understand the cruelty children display these days. i don't remember children treating other children so hatefully when I was young (that was about a hundred years ago.....)I sounds like you've recovered from being victimized, but I don't reckon you ever forget. You're a hero and a survivor! Kudos to you!
Love and blessings,
Conni
Oh....thanks for the meditation info. I'll work on it. Have you heard of the Munay Ki rites?

Now, see, meditation is a practical way to de-stress and get beyond the negativity life throws our way at times - for kids and adults, alike!

Freebubbles...yes, that' it! I received the rites 21 days ago today. I'll be able to pass them on to whomever is ready and wants them. Anyway, there was quite a bit of meditation involved in those ceremonies and some incredible energies were in there, too. There is something going on inside me that wasn't there (or maybe it was and I didn't know it.....) before I received the rites. It really is a beautiful thing!

Karen, you teach meditation, right? Do you have a website?
