I use ginger root, too. Massage does NOT help my migraines; it makes them worse. Anything that gets blood to flow away from my head helps. I wrote up a long article on what helps my type of migraine, which is chronic (I don't get classic migraines--well, only once or twice):

How to Get Rid of a Migraine Headache

As a migraine sufferer for 40 years, I have tried just about every home remedy' and OTC drug there is. One thing that did give me relief was the prescription Maxalt MLT. HOWEVER....In September, I started to modify my diet to cleanse my body from candida, eliminating all wheat (it's easier than it sounds!), most sugars, and yeast. It was challenging at first, but after 4 weeks of diligent trial...I lost 10 pounds, and my energy levels were incredible....Around thanksgiving, I took and inventory of my prescription tab (the holidays were always brutal for me!), I realized that I hadn't had a migraine in over 2 months!!!! I used to have one or two PER WEEK, all scent, weather and stress related. So, I'm not sure if I am wheat sensitive or if the candida was a factor, but it's working!!!! I'm finding that the food sensitivities can cause headaches and other health issues, as does the candida. If you are a sufferer, diet modification is worth a shot!

Hey there, great post! Did you follow something close to a low carb diet? I get frequent headaches, several a week, sometimes they go on for days so this may be worth a shot to me also. Also, what is candida?
Thanks!

Headache is defined as pain in the head or upper neck. It is one of the most common locations of pain in the body and has many causes. There are three major categories of headaches: 1. primary headaches, 2. secondary headaches, and 3. cranial neuralgias, facial pain, and other headaches

If this is your regular problem you should have a first aid kit with you.I think you should take a look at this website. It looks rather useful and very detailed - it includes everything you should utilize during "minor" emergencies

I am not a migraine sufferer. I do, however, have compelling feedback from friends and clients who are migraine sufferers, and have found help from their pain. I wanted to share, if that's okay. I have a buckwheat hull pillow business. I began the company when a chiropractor recommended such a pillow for my chronic shoulder-to-elbow injury (I played guitar professionally 5 hours a night, six nights a week, for a few years) which would awaken me at nights with unbearable pain. I'd sit up for an hour or so while the pain-killers kicked in, before I could lay down without the pain. After I got the pillow (which I'd never heard of up until the recommendation), I instantly slept better: zero pain. My neck was supported, and I slept in a properly aligned position, and I never awakened with pain again, as long as I slept on the pillow. Of course I was both over-whelmed at the simplicity, and amazed at the cure. I immediately found a supplier of buckwheat hulls and started my own company. Over time I learned many other benefits of the buckwheat hull pillow, and one of ways the pillows reputedly helped was, among other things, with migraine pain management. My friend, Ruth, had had a migraine every day upon waking for over a week. She bought the pillow, just the small one... and for the first time in a week awakened without a migraine, an at the time of contacting me, hadn't had one since. This is BIG! She is just one in a long list of folks who suffer from migraines who have had remarkable results with such a non-invasive thing as a pillow! Just wanted to pass this along; I just felt that if you didn't know about it, you should. In the meantime, I've been sleeping on the same a 30-dollar pillow that I bought five years ago! I'm too cheap to sew another, as long as this one is working perfectly. The best to you, one and all. -Bridget Cumberlandperfectsleep at yahoo.ca w w w . wix . c o m /Bridget M / Cumberland

My husband has been dealing with migraines for years and been getting progressively stronger meds from doctor. Earlier this year she recommended riboflavin (b2 vitamin). It took about three months but he's noticed a significant reduction in the number of migraines he gets every month.
