Not long after, of course, the seat went back again! Well I let it be until I was leaning forward a little bit, writing something in the notebook and the boy's seat went back suddenly and hit me on the head and it hurt! So, fed up by now, I headbutted it out of my way! And then the moomy complained to me so I explained WHY I said I think "I understand your son is more comfortable with his seat back but PLEASE just tell him to be more CAFEFUL and put it back SLOWLY cos he just moved back quickly and the chair hit me on the head! And it hurt!" And she snapped at me with a very snarky defensive tone "He didn't even MOVE!" I hate parents like this. Their kids can do no wrong. My parents (they are raising my nephew) operate with the opposite assumption - if someone said my nephew did something, he probably did. Why would you make it up? And why can't they handle even the slightest bit of criticism, if you even want to call it that. Yeah, they are going to make great parents. The kids will grow up to think he can do no wrong, b/c his parents have reinforced that illusion. I know many adults that can never admit they are wrong, take responsibility for themselves, and that have a sense of entitlement. I've got to think that this type of parenting is what creates that type of adult!
Save your own life - don't have kids!

OMG -- had the worst kid flight last night that I've had in a long time. We were late coming home from Cozumel, and this small toddler starts crying and screaming bloody murder about 3-4 rows behind me. I HAD to plug my ears to keep me from going absolutely stark-raving mad. The thing screamed itself nearly hoarse, and I was thinking we might get a break, and then it started screaming worse for the next 20 minutes than it did the last 15 minutes. When we deplaned, my boyfriend said, "I could tell you were really having a rough time with that..." while I was thinking, Hard time?!? I wanted to slam my head on something to knock myself OUT -- yes, it was a hard time. I said something to that effect, and I nearly knocked him out when he said, "Ehhh, it's different..." and trailed off. I think my eyes bugged out and my head spun 180 degrees before I said, "Oh no...no, no, no, please don't say, "...when it's your own..." and he quickly got the hint. I calmly explained to him that at least for me, I can't stand that kind of noise, and I don't get visions trying to calm it -- I just want it to shut the hell up -- and I thank God every day that He didn't put me in a position to have to deal with that on a daily basis. I think my boyfriend and I had a breakthrough. Suffice it to say, I'd be all for a kid-free zone on a plane, and even kid-free (whole) planes. I'd pay extra, too. Last night, I would have paid a LOT to shut that thing up.

...I think my boyfriend and I had a breakthrough. Hearing about how one thinks is one thing -- SEEING IN PERSON is another thing entirely! If it helps, I could FEEL your pain -- and HIS pain at the same time. Personally, after that display/discussion, I would put any mentioning of children on the "If I bring this subject up ever again, I will have my head bit right off and handed back to me in a million wafer-thin-slices" topic list. It's nothing personal -- just the instinct for survival till tomorrow

Angela, hopefully your boyfriend has no uncertain ideas about how you feel about children, especially after that! LOL!
I work for an airline based in the Dallas area, and I know how horrible it can be when a baby is screaming on a plane and there is nothing anyone can do about it. It makes me glad I'm not a flight attendant and having to work in that kind of environment all the time.
I'd love for there to be childfree sections on the planes...preferably in the far back with a wall dividing everyone. Of course, that would add weight, which increases fuel burn, so don't look for that on any airline anytime soon.

This is a little off topic. My husband is 6'2" and always has trouble on planes. For his birthday I bought him these "comfort zone space defenders" that you put on the tray table connection to the seat in front of you so the person in that seat can only move back a limited amount. You can adjust them so it's not like the person can't move their seat back at all. I think they were designed for people using laptops and working to not have their work disrupted. Anyway, we just got back from vacation and he used them for the first time. They're great! I was a bit nervous that the person in front of him would notice, but no one did. We traveled last weekend, and we actually stuck at the airport for a while. It wasn't too bad kids wise, but there were parents in our area that got stuck entertaining their three small children under the age of 5 for several hours. We were glad it wasn't us! At one point the two-year-old hit her head, and there was some screaming. But over all, they weren't that bad.
But there was a point when someone with a double-wide strollers barrelled through one of the lines. There simply wasn't room for the HUGE double stroller (the ones with the seats side by side, not in front of each other.) If someone has to buy something that obnoxious, I just wish they didn't have to dominate already crowded areas like airports with them. I openly complained about the size of the thing and didn't care if they heard me.
Save your own life - don't have kids!

One of the guys in the CF Meetup I organize flies on business a lot. He has a new idea for a business: Drunken Bastard airlines. Essentially, the planes would be "flying bars", and there would be drinks constantly served throughout the flight. Best of all, nobody --- that's NOBODY --- under 21 would be allowed on any flight. He has a hunch that every seat would sell out, immediately. I think he might be right, too! Does anyone know any venture capitalists?

Only problem is, who would be held liable when those drunk passengers deplane to get into their cars and drive to their destinations, completely sloshed? I don't think D.B. Airlines would last very long after a few lawsuits of this sort, sadly. Not unless they require their passengers to take taxis after they get off the flight. :-) I remember there was an attempt to form "Hooters Air" along similar lines, but I don't know if that ever got off the ground. That probably wouldn't be too family-friendly. Cindy One of the guys in the CF Meetup I organize flies on business a lot. He has a new idea for a business: Drunken Bastard airlines.
