Lol BG...I"m sure Rusty hasn't suffered much for his weekend fast. In fact, it's actually good for them to do that once in awhile. Cleans them out.

I'm sure he'll forgive you and make up...lol

I'll bet he did, he is up to his old antics, swimming around like a nut. It is funny how fish have personalities, just like little people. I think Rusty thinks he is a person. I bought him shrimp pellets this weekend and I am going to chop them in 1/4's for him as a rare treat. I was thinking about maybe getting him a few live brine shrimp this weekend. Anyone try that?

Oh yes...I do my own brine shrimp up when I feel like giving them a treat. It really isn't that hard but generally my 'crop' of them lasts about 3 days tops, so I have to be sure not to make up more than I can use.

I had a constant supply of them during my 'betta breeding' experience..lol..lots of little mouths to feed.

By the way, they love them ! I think just as much for the fun of chasing them down as for the taste...lol.

Wanted to share a picture of my 10 gallon divided...all redone after a bout with 'ich'

I have flourite under the smooth stones for the live plants I have in there...which are..water sprite, cabomba, amazon sword, what I think is cryptocoryne and some kind of fern thing that I'm not even sure is a fully aquatic plant..lol..

In this picture the end compartment on the left has plastic plants and the bio-wheel filter. I have since replaced those with live plants, put a piece of plastic canvas over the outflow of the filter to slow down the current a bit...and put "Gorbash" in that section. I have Neon, Zorro and Ruth in the other sections.

I am hoping the biofiltering capacity hasn't been compromised too much with the super cleaning and meds I've had to treat this tank with. To help it along I put the used filter pad from my 15 gallon in that tank as I had to throw away the one that was in there.

Anway, here's a pic !

I also added a black background to this tank. I think black really brings out the coloring of the fish and also the plants. I have replaced the 2-15 watt incandescent bulbs with 2-10 Watt compact flourescent bulbs. The plants that I have in there should do well with that lighting....though I believe the added lighting is what caused the "ich" outbreak, even though I didn't change both bulbs at once, but one at a time. The outbreak happened before I even got the second flourescent bulb in there...hate when that happens..

oooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Some day I will get a large tank and maybe it can be as pretty as yours EMG

P.S. does anyone else feel bad doing a water change when your betta has a really good bubble nest going and is still working on it? Sigh! haha

Looks awesome emg!
elise.. Yes. Every time. One thing about his new 10gallon home though, is he hasn't found a quiet enough spot to build a bubble nest. He hasn't built one in over 2 weeks. I'm hoping he'll find somewhere that's not going to destroy the nest. Either that or I'll see if I can find a breeding home for him that he can call his own and build all the bubble nests he wants!

Jalepeno is looking especially cute today, LOL! I'm always amazed at his colors, he's a red, but he has green streaks in his fins...very Christmassy...too bad he wasn't a gift, huh? The weirdest thing about him, though, is that even though he keeps ripping his fins on every last possible object in my tank (I swear, he could even rip them on the marbles...), I've never had problems with fin rot yet. I've freaked out several times when he ripped his fin, but so far...nothing! Weird....

So yeah...no questions or responses today, just a random comment!

Your doing a good job keeping his water clean Elise! Finrot generally gets started when a fin injury is suseptible to bacteria because of dirty water. There are other causes of torn or tattered fins besides injuries. Ammonia burn, or PH burn can also tatter up a betta's fins. I wouldn't think ammonia burn is a problem with your fish Elise...but if he keeps tattering his fins and you don't know why you might want to start keeping track of the PH...to see if there are any big swings during water changes and the like.

HEY !!!! My "Blinkies" back !!

wait, no it isn't....this is strange....I see the blinkie when I preview my post...but it's not on here after I post it....very odd...

I change the water about twice a week, and I suction out his poops about four times a day or more, so I don't think ammonia has that much of a chance to build up. I don't test pH, so next time I can get out to the store I'll invest in some strips. But he seems happy, so I'm sure whatever it is, he isn't suffering! I think he's just so energetic that when he goes tearing around his tank, he bumps into things, the little bugger...I thought at first that his spazing out was a sign of illness, but I'm pretty sure now that it's just him :P

I've also been adding salt at each water change, which I'm sure is making a big difference as far as keeping his fins clean

Elise
