Hey Anni- I do not have children (probably pretty obvious by my sceen name) but personally I can tell you that I had wonderful success with the South Beach Diet. It is a lot of work with cooking, but with that and doing cardio about 5 times per week I dropped about 25 pounds and 4 sizes. I can also tell you that it took a long time, about a year, but the weight has stayed off. In general I would say to really focus on eating healthy, lean sources of protein and lots of leafy greens. Also- doing some cardio work on a regular basis, even just walking around the neightborhood will work wonders if you are consistent. Good luck!

I have had a bunch of kids. Stomach exercises help maintain your posture and how round your stomach can become.

Cardio is important. It gives you all-over improved skin tone, which helps to eliminate sagging belly skin. A must!

The "stars" trick is to dehydrate. That gets rid of the last holdouts. I wound up with a gorgeous stomach after contracting pneumonia and becoming too sick to take in much fluid for 2 weeks. However, about a year later I had it wrecked again.

A friend of mine who only does moderate exercise swears by maintaining a STRICT diet. She also has the body to prove it. But, I like chips, squares and ice cream.

As people age, they lose much of the underlying fat, the dermis and epidermis become thinner, the elastic fibers in the dermis become fragmented, and the skin becomes wrinkled, as we get older if were heavy in weight and loss weight the skin will hang (yikes) im talking from experience and no exercise will tighten all that sagging skin ( a tummy tuck is the only way to tighten all that sagging skin)

Try the supplement CLA. There's been research on it that confirms it decreases belly fat and also fat on thighs for women. For men it's just the belly fat.

I've been taking it since January, and so has my husband and daughter and I lost 5 lbs almost immediately-all of it in my stomach. It works best with a nutritional diet but at times when I'm going to be eating more than normal-like when we go out to dinner, I take an extra one. The bottle says take one at each meal but I've just taken one at dinner to get results.

My husband and daughter have had similar results.

Despite what some people think, you cannot target fat loss for specific areas of the body. No such thing as spot reduction fat loss.

I would actually suggest drinking a lot of water because then your body will store less. Many people do not know this. Don't dehydrate yourself.

Cardio 3x per week for 30 mins and a solid diet will work wonders if you want to lose the fat the right way. Lots of protein and 5-6 small meals per day to boost your metabolism. If you are having a lot of cravings for food, esp bad food, check the link in my signature below.

Hi Anni

You can totally get rid of it but it takes time, effort, and patience. I had my son by c-section and when I saw my abs afterwards I was pretty shocked at how terrible they looked. I never imagined I could get them to look better than they did before he was born but I did it. I started trying to get rid of the fat about 5 months after he was born. At the time I had just turned 30 was 149lb and about 32% of disgusting bodyfat (I'm 5'4 barely). I did a combination of things but what I found worked best was doing 30-60 second forearm planks 2-3 times a day (this is what will pull the tummy in and keep it in) 5 small meals a day including protein in every meal (this is what boosts metabolism big time), doing 3-4 shorter bouts of interval cardio per week rather than long boring cardio every day like most people do (this is what burns the fat), and circuit training for 45 minutes 4 times a week (this is what burns more fat and tones the abs).

Four months later I was down to 135lb and about 24% fat. It was good but not where I wanted to be. This is about the time when I got certified and 6 months later I started working in a gym. I had lost another 10lb but my bodyfat was 22%. With the help of other trainers I learned how to intensify my workouts by adding cardio intervals to my circuit training like jump rope, jumping jacks, squat thrusts and lateral hops. I also shortened my cardio even more but added uphill sprinting, stairs, and fast packing. This is basic stuff that most women overlook. I also learned that eating carbs earlier in the day is crucial but virtually unnecessary late at night. This helped me drop to 118lb and 17% fat. I was nearing 32 when I reached this goal and I never in my life imagined that I could look better at 32 than I did when I was 22.

I am now 37 and my weight has leveled out at 119 and my bodyfat fluctuates between 19 and 21% (I'm not as strict as I used to be and I rarely do cardio). If you want to get rid of the belly fat you have to do all those things in combination and you have to be consistent. Try this program to get started. Warning!

I agree with what you are saying, it worked for me as well. My best body was at age 42!!

However you may want to rethink the slacking off of cardio bit. I did that. Now I have inches of loose ab skin to try and remedy. It sneaks up on you; just a little shape shifting each year then, AAHHH!

I am 5'5" and have gone from 126 low-low fat, to 134, somewhat toned with more feminine curves (fat in the T and A) Since I hurt my knees this is my 5th slack year and have discovered a huge amout of loose skin around my abdominal area. Sucks to be lazy.

I would also like to suggest an exercise called the Stomach Vaccuum, which you can read up and watch on BodyBuilding.com

I hear you on that. I think it does get tougher to keep the fat off as you get older and it also depends on what body type you have. Some people need tons of cardio (unfortunately) and others need less. Others need tons of weights and others can get away with less. It also depends on your past conditioning. Have you ever seen those really athletic people who have done sports their entire life. They can slack off big time then start doing a bit of exercise and they're sporting 6 pack abs. I wish I was one of them!!!

BTW, Stomach Vaccuum and other isometrics like that are all very good for tummy issues.
