Hate when stuff like that happens.....that's ok Nann...don't kick yourself too hard for it....we all do things like that on occasion...specially mom's. We have so many things on our minds all the time...and so many things to do...it's a wonder we can function at all !

Do you have anything in the tank with him BG...(I'm sure you do...lol..just have to ask)...The murkiness could be coming from something in the tank. Gravel causes cloudiness if it's new and hasn't been rinsed well..sometimes even if you did rinse it well...I have heard others have problems with certain little tank toys/cave type things causeing water quality problems.
I would give the filter a try BG...but you would still need nice fresh water once a week if it's a smaller tank..say 1 gallon. I don't know how small you can get a filter, but it could end up taking up a bit of room in a 1 gallon tank. I have seen what are called nano filters that hang on the outside of small tanks. They are like very small power filters.
The little bubbles he's blowing is a good sign BG. <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I have two fake plants and a cave that looks like an octopus. I know he needs new plants, and the cave usually feels slimy when I touch it. The plants are sticking together and are loosing their green color and turning brown. I am going to get new plants this weekend, and perhaps a new cave. There is also little blue gravel/rocks in there. I washed them really well after Squishy passed.

Hello everyone I got a betta fish from Wal-Mart yesterday. The container of water was filthy, so I immediately placed him in a glass bowl. I have marbles and a shell in with him. I woke up today and his fins look so wilted, almost shredded. After researching, I assume it is fin rot. All the information I have found instructs me to change his water daily. Would this still apply, since most information is assuming I have had it for awhile? I suspect he contracted it from the stress of the change in environment, water, etc.

***when I said had IT for awhile, I meant the fish not fin rot. Most information suggests the fish got fin rot from bacteria growing on the marbles, but I know this can't be the case.

I got Joseph a new fish last night, of course, I couldn't only bring home one. So, I found Joey another red one, and a beautiful multicolored one with blue, green, peach and glints of lavender supposedly for me. First Joey asked if he could have them both, then said he wanted the multicolored guy. I also got 3 more ADFs (my DH tells me to stay away from the fish department for a while!) and gave him one. He's very excited about it, and I'm not sure what he named his yet. He called the red one Glitter Jr. Nan

PinkCupcake, Welcome! The frequent water changes apply no matter how long you've had him. Clean water and aquarium salt are the most important things for him. Nan

Hello PinkCc...welcome to the forum here !
He may have reacted to a difference in the PH from the water he was sitting in at the store, and that nice clean water you put him in at home. Did you acclimate him carefully to your water at home? I usually take a good half hour to get them used to the new water.
First I float them in their new tank..in the bowl they came home in...long enough for the water temperature in the ugly water to adjust to the water in the nice new home. Then I carefully add just a bit of new water to the ugly water they are in...a little bit at a time...add a bit..wait a good couple of minutes...add a bit more..and wait...etc..etc..till you have about twice as much water in there than you started with. Pour some out if you have to as you are adding new water. This way the betta has a chance to get used to the new water..and is less likely to get sick from the change.
I would add some aquarium salt to his water and make sure to keep it good and clean so that the injury doesn't develope finrot. I don't think that's what it is yet...unless he had it before you got him...what did his fins look like when you put him in the new water? If they looked fine than it's probably PH burn or some other reaction from the change in water...even though it was clean...lol...
Wish you well in healing the little guy up Cupcake ! let us know ! <img src="/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />
