Some people want to make more money than they would ever need. Is that right? Or one should devote oneself in other pursuits after making sufficient money?

There is a saying that goes:
"Money can't buy you happiness - but it buys an excellent quality of misery!"

You can't make sufficient money, and then stop. The money you have is never going to be enough, with the rising cost of living - anywhere....Sooner or later, unless you have so much money that you can simply live off the interest for the rest of your life - you need to make some more....

I don't think how much money you have is a measure of how happy you are. But I do think what you do with it, is.
So I would certainly say that, with the gross imbalance of world wealth against the amount of world poverty, those with oodles and noodles of money, who channel none of their wealth toward the good of others, are indeed, selfish.

Just my view, because in the long run, what anyone does with their own resources is ultimately down to them.

Some people create great wealth for power and pleasure.
Others such as gates and Buffet give it away.
I was thinking of the first type.
Why not earn say- 100 million Dollars and then pursue spirituality or charity or something that helps society?
why spend all life to earn 100,000 million Dollars?

Alexandra , you said-
There is a saying that goes:
"Money can't buy you happiness - but it buys an excellent quality of misery!"

But those who give away money do get pleasure.

I hope so. if they use it wisely for the good of others, and invest it in order to afford improvement to the quality of life for those less fortunate than themselves, I would say so.
If they are looking to make a donation that will at one point bring them a return on their investment - in other words, to benefit themselves in the long run - then I'm not sure their motives are entirely honourable or altruistic.
But whatever we do for the good of others, and their good principally or uniquely, must bring a moral and psychological reward.... yes, I think so.

I think that gates and Buffet must have derived great happiness after donating bulk of their fortune.

One of the reasons I'd like to have an abundance of money is to give part of it away. I see so many people and causes I'd like to help.

I guess it's easier to give when you have plenty-as in millions. I do admire those who have made millions and use it to help others.

I have a nice, amusing poem I hope you will enjoy...

never ask of money spent
Where the spender thinks it went.
Nobody was ever meant
to recall what he has lent,
- or remember, or invent
just what he did, with every cent!

I remember this whenever i look in my purse and ask myself where all that money has disappeared!
