A good safe place to walk is at a high school track. It is out in the open and usually there are other people walking there, too. You might have to try a few different times of day to find the best group of people to match your age and walking style. My husband likes to walk early in the morning when all the "old people" like him like to walk. LOL
Another suggestion for a safe walking place is the mall. They actually open early for walkers (although they are usually our age, but that can be fun, too)

Rosie, this will actually help get you motivated, once you start walking "outside" you will begin to have GOOD endorphins giving you more energy! Lala, use the extra time you have in the morning to start walking with your husband, like you used to do a few years ago! It will be fun!

And the air and flowers will smell so good now since you don't smoke! Congratulations!!
