Thank you, all for your ideas and for listening (or should I say...reading?). So, I was telling my DH about calling them back and suggest an alternative for Saturday, but he says the conversation with our friend was pretty much "we're going to Universal Studios on Saturday, and we'd love it if you guys could meet us there". I guess they bought some kind of California theme park pass or something like that. Anyhow, that made me realize that spending time with us is not in their list of priorities, and so it took all the guilt away. We decided not to go, and we'll just let them know that right now it's not a good idea for us to spend that kind of money. To be honest, we very much rather spend it on a weekend of our choosing. God knows DH and I need to spend some quality time with each other. Also, the No Kidding group in Vegas is having a get-together on Sunday, and eventhough I haven't met any of them, I think I would rather go to this event and meet some new people!
On another note, Pinkbows is so right about theme parks not being the most fun places for a 2 and a 3-year old. I think my friends want to live vicariously through their children. Honestly, who would spend 40.00 or 50.00 on a Disneyland admission for a 3-year old that won't even remember his visit a month from now? I guess if you have the money...but I think that it is the parents who just can't wait to take their children to all these places, and do it at the first opportunity without even stopping to think whether the kid is going to enjoy them or not. I have seen many little ones (my nephew included) being just miserable at Disneyland because of the heat, long lines, etc.. Just a thought.
