Logic, he won't starve. If he won't eat, he is either sulking and will eventually eat, or he's got constipation. I don't remeber what you said his problem was, but I'd just let him work it out. If he's sulking, offer food, and remove it if he doesn't go for it.
Moving to a cooler bowl should be done gradually, BTW. Put him in a cup with his warm water and add in some colder water from the new bowl over the course of an hour before you tip him into it.

yes I did move him gradually. I actually used a sandwich bag cause I didn't have anything better. I let the bag rest in the water of the bowl, and waited a bit. Then let some water from the bowl into baggie, and waited again. About an hour later I added fish to bowl and removed bag. It was probably shy of an hour, but close. I think he is sulking due to be taken out of the aquarium. I am just a pushover for my pets lol

Logic,
No one else mentioned it, so I'll say that they do have plastic rings for feeding fish. You put the food inside the ring and the fish comes up from the bottom to eat. If needed you can try that. The other thought I had was to offer him a little bit of cooked pea - not the skin, cause if he is constipated, peas seem to help.

hey guys. i have heard that there is a humane way to euthanize fish: "a humane way to do it apparently is to put a small amount of water in a ziplock bag with the fish, then add a tablespoon or so of baking soda. this puts them to sleep."
my gourami is sick & i just know he is suffering. i'm not sure what happened, but he is just laying on his side on the bottom. i couldn't believe he made it through the night last night.
but, i don't want to do anything rash. any advice?

I don't think you should really give up on a fish. He sounds like he could be possibly constipated, but you haven't given too many details. A way I've heard many people euthanize their fish is to put them in a plastic bag with enough water to cover them, then put the bag in the freezer. As the temperature drops, they will go to sleep, in theory. But give your guy a chance before you do anything unnecessary. What exactly is his problem? What are you feeding, did you try quarantining him with clean water? Stuff like that. There are lots of knowledgeable people here who can give you great advice Elise

well, the problem is i was gone when my fish got sick. i traveled to chicago over new years (my mother took care of him) & when i came back, he was at the bottom of his tank barely moving and looking as if he has a hard time breathing with one cloudy eye. he is also on his side, as stated above.
i did quarantine him with clean water, and i have been feeding him the normal tropical fish flakes (which he won't eat).
since the quarantine, not much has changed except for the fact he is still alive (b/c i didn't think he'd make it much longer).
i really don't want to give up but i just feel sick when i watch him suffer like this ...

Well my Betta is eating more now. I think he is finally getting over his bad mood. I feel so bad about taking away all that new found space he had that I am planning on getting him a small aquarium all for himself.
I bought four danios today. 2 orange long fin and 2 zebra. I am planning to add some more fish later after these get used to they're new home. I am thinking about finding a female betta to add to his community tank. I have heard that they get along with other fish. I would love to hear some feedback on that.

sorry to hear about your fish. I know how it is to have a fish die. I lost my first two bettas almost immeadiately. I probably would have given up on the whole fish thing if it weren't for the people on this forum telling me not to give up. So I hope that things get better, and you shouldn't give up either.
