Yes. That is part of tolerance and respect for the faith of others, - the rights of others to observe the Christian Festivals, - the right to worship and pray. Take these away, and your take away what is sacred to others, and that is wrong in my opinion.
Patience.

Let me clarify my statement. Tolerance is a slippery slope. What we should be talking about is freedom. Freedom to worship how you see fit. Freedom to believe what you choose to believe. Tolerance is an individual issue while freedom is a corporate issue. When we try to force tolerance on others we impact freedom. Freedom is precious and we should not tolerate others trying to take it from us in the name of tolerance. Tolerance is just personal choice and no one should be forced to tolerate anything. If we lose the right to strongly disagree then we lose freedom. People have become so accostumed to safety and security in this society they think it is their right for their feelings to be safe and not be offended. We have no such right because the right to be intolerant is part of freedom of speech. No matter HOW offensive it is. As long as no one threatens to physically harm you then they should be allowed to say anything. And we all have a right to disagree.

Tolerance? Not freedom. Acceptance. I think it was Patience who highlighted the importance of acceptance. Accepting everyone as a precious sacred individual in their own right, with no judgement or condition as to what, who, why, when, how or where they worship.
Just love. That's all that's needed. Tacit, accepting, Love.
Simple.

Hi Alexandra!! you said:
Accepting everyone as a precious sacred individual in their own right, with no judgement or condition as to what, who, why, when, how or where they worship.
I think that is what Jesus taught! God made everyone and everything and God does not make Junk!!!
I think Freedom means the freedom to do, say, be how ever who ever whenever what ever!! freedom means you have nothing to lose and everything to gain!
I think Tolerants is the ablity to except others and not try to change them and this should only apply to people who do not hurt others in anyway!! for example a rapist, muderer, wife beater, child abuser should and will not be tolerated EVER!!! but some one that just prays different or does not pray, looks and acts different should be tolerated!
I even think those who dont skeak my lanauges should be tolerated even tho I believe that when in America speak American to the Americans but at home speak whatever you like!!!! I should not be forced to speak a lanauge that is not my Countrys lanaguage just to spare someone elses feeling or cultureal pride! this is my Culture and My Country! anyways.... I went to get a hamburger and the girl didnt speak much english and told me to learn spanish or dont come back!!! ARGGGGG lol

jcfreak, tolerance is not something you can force on others. You either are a tolerant person or you are not.
Tolerance does not erode freedom, it gives it, but this does not mean freedom to hurt others or to take away their rights as human beings.
Tolerance does not tolerate evil. Tolerance is a state of mind and soul. I do not believe that tolerance means allowing, - it means accepting. It means having respect where respect is due.
I think there is some confusion about the word 'tolerance'.
Patience.

I think the confusion comes from somewhere in the bible it says hate evil and do not tolerate evil!
I take this to mean dont tolerate evil with in your self and in your life. love the person but not there actions and if theier actions cause you to stumble then stay away from the action or person if you have too!
I dont how ever read it to mean take on all evil and kill it!!
what i see as evil is not the same as someone else!

freebubbles, As a Christian you are supposed to see evil through God's eyes. Not your own. We do not judge but we accept the judgement of God and it is our responsibility to DISCERN between what is evil and good based on judgements God has already made. And Jesus said He accepts those who come to Him. That is conditional. We must repent, accept His death upon the cross as payment for our sins in place of our own, and live by His commandments. And you are right about not killing evil. That was done by Christ on the cross. That victory has already been won.
